Paul of infinity diamonds(through Wink) did the recut he brought a dead diamond back to life now it has a lot of tiny sparkles from edge to edge.the stone is mounted on a (cheap) 14k wg size 4.75, 3 mm,6 prong cathedral style setting. i would sacrafice the weight for a ideal cut H&A any day, but the wife prefers the bigger size. i purchased the stone about 8 years ago as a I VS stone with no cert. well at least i didn't get riped off(on the color & clarity) by the vendor. AGS certified the stone ideal 0 cut.

(HCA 1.0,AGA 1A cut)
AGS ideal 0 cut
Weight 1.15 ct H&A
Color I
Clarity VS 2
Measurements: 6.80 x 6.82 x 4.14
Crown angle: 34.1 height: 14.9%
PAV angle: 40.8 depth: 42.9%
Table: 56%
total depth: 60.9%

Nice! Just curious, who''s the diamond for? You or your wife?

Wow! It''s beautiful. I have often wondered about having a diamond recut to ideal proportions. Is this expensive to do? And did you know what size the stone would become beforehand?

yes, they will give you an estimate weight before the recut.i was told between 1.10-1.15 ct when finish.

Didn''t you have this done last year?

no "before" pictures, didn''t have a digital camera but i can tell you it had no crown height, flat as a pancake !!!

Are you saying that after the re-cut, your wife preferred it as it was originally?
What were the proportions prior to the cut (aside from the 60/60)?

she likes the new sparkles but prefer the bigger size of the original.i don''t know what the proportions was never did a sarin scan before the recut all i know it was a 60/60 stone with no fire.

That''s really beautiful DF!! Congrats and with a stone like that who dares say anything about the setting!

I noticed that you put both this stone, and the 3.34 honker in plain white gold solitaires...Since your wife is not happy with wearing this smaller recut stone as a solitaire, you can have this as a sidestone (and purchase another similar size H&A) for your 3.34ct honker! It would really overwhelm her petite finger, but I've yet to hear of any gal complain about her diamonds being too big!

Donald Trump's wife got a 12 to 13 ct Rock, and her fingers can't be more than a size 6!

So, the 60/60 didn''t have any fire, in ANY lighting whatsoever?
So, she actually prefers the size... a kindred spirit of mine!

I disagree, headlight,

I''d rather have a sparkly diamond than a ''dead'' diamond, whatever its size. Anyway, she already has a lovely and humungous diamond ring, so why would she want to keep this one as a dud? Beats me.

Sometimes, size doesn''t matter.....that much!
9.gif

I didn''t say I was all for the dud! I meant that I could appreciate her preferring the larger size diamond.
I asked about the performance of the stone in lighting situations, as my non-ideal "large" stone gives off all kinds of color flashes in sunlight, spot light, flourescent light, etc., so I was surprised if it never had any fire, under any conditions whatsoever.

Sorry if I came across as criticising you headlight, it wasn't intentional.

I was equally suprised that the lady owner would prefer the original size over the sparkly recut, which was how I'd read the original post. We all like the bigger stones

but I wouldn't take or keep one that was as bad as it sounded.

I too have non ideals - but mine sparkle beautifully, so I'm happy both ways anyway.

No problem!
I just wanted to make sure I came across correctly. Yes, I have a non-ideal, and yes, it is big -- I''m sure it isn''t the prettiest stone out there, but it sure isn''t ugly, and I''m certain that most people think it is much better than it is (which then makes me question the point of upgrading its quality???!!!).
I hadn''t realized that she had the "rock", as well -- if that was me, then I wouldn''t mind going a little smaller to get a fireball!!!

Me neither! I''m glad we agree, headlight, I''ve always loved your stuff (ideal or not, it rocks!)

Sorry for the slow response, I had to go and feed my ''other'' addiction - record the latest episode of Stargate Atlantis!

Dancing Fire,

It looks great! Congrats on your re-cut!

the fact is she wears the 1.15 ct everyday, hardly ever wear the 3.34 ct ring.what a waste.

not much fire in any lighting condition.paul who recut the stone said the original cutter just cut to retain the extra weight.

Wow -- I guess that stone was one of them that gives the 60/60 a bad rep. Mine is more like a 61/61, but something else in the "mix" must work because I do get pretty colors.
Even though you said she preferred it the size it was before the re-cut, she must not dislike it too much if she wears that one all the time and the 3.4 infrequently!
I think it is really special that you take such an interest, to the point that you wanted her stone to really sparkle so much so you had it re-cut!

thanks guys for all your great compliments.
