Full or 3/4 eternity? Which would you choose?

I'm going to order this http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/ring-details/?product_id=5434 as a right hand ring, as a memorial/special gift to myself.

I got quotes for 3/4 and full eternity, and other than the price difference, I just can't decide!

Which would you choose and why?

Thanks for letting me pick your collective brains!
Have a great weekend,
BG

I'm also planning on buying this ring next year. I'm planning on getting the 3/4 because I tend to be hard on my rings and don't want to loose any stones. I would also like the to have the option of resizing it in case I change my mind which hand I'll wear it on and I don't think it's possible to resize a full eternity.. maybe someone can confirm that?

Lucky you, that's a beautiful ring. I am klutz supreme and very hard on rings, you're so much less likely to pop a stone with the 3/4. I also agree with the previous poster about sizing. I wore a five on my ring finger for a million years and now can't get one past my knuckle; we're talking the bone here, not fat. Sizing a full eternity is a nightmare, most jewelers won't do it.

If you are worried about sizing I would get the 3/4. I have 3 eternity bands and just recently had two of my smaller eternity bands made a little big larger (1/4 of a size) to fit my right hand as opposed to my left. They shaved off a little bit of gold on the inside and then they stretch it a little bit somehow. I was worried but it worked. My jeweler will resize eternity bands but most wont.

I'm gonna get the same thing for my bday (at least that's what I'm working on). If I was going to wear it as a RHR I'd get a 3/4 because I have an eternity WB and I don't like it, but because I'm wearing it as a stacker, I plan to get an eternity. So I guess that means that I would vote for a 3/4.

i wonder if Leon could make me some of his 1.2mm string bands in 3/4 instead of full eternity? or maybe i should just get the regular eternity in a little bigger size and use sizing beads....

This is the current debate I'm having regarding my wedding band, so I'm loving the opinions! Keep going! :))

If you get 3/4 you have the ablity to size. I am not sure if you are married or have had kids but your ring size can change.

If you get a full eternity, i might get it a 1/4 size bigger than you normally wear. For the days that there is swelling and if you plan to stack. Right now I am wearing 4 size 5 eternity rings and they feel ok, even though i know my ring size is 4. Remember the wider the stack you may need to go up in size a little.

Good Luck

I think I would go with 3/4 eternity - not so much for the sizing issue as that I'm quite hard on my rings and I would prefer to have metal on the underside where the ring gets a bit bashed. I do have two very fine eternity bands that I wear as a split wedder when I'm not at work, but I never stack them with anything but my e-ring or wedder, never wear them on my RH, and they are probably about 1/4 - 1/2 size larger than my actual ring size.

For a RHR that you might stack or want to wear in different ways, I think 3/4 might give you more flexibility. (And more money for your next project )

ETA: I'm also right handed, so any RHR - for me - would need to be reasonably hardy as I use that hand so much more (and use it to bang on things for emphasis etc  )

I would go with 3/4 eternity myself. It's a very pretty ring.

Full eternity for me! Rings are constantly turning and it would bug me alot if the diamonds side is underneath your finger all the time instead of on top of your finger!

I had the same dilemma and I finally decided on the full eternity and that was over 6 years ago and I am so glad I made the choice of full eternity. It would totally bug me if my ring showed the no diamond part and usually rings do rotate somewhat. I just love the full eternity and it is blingy no matter the orientation. I second sizing it up a bit and I got mine 1/4 size larger and it still fits perfectly and my fingers do swell and shrink according to temp and I have Raynauds on top of that so they really do fluctuate and so far no issues at all. I am also hard on my rings (big klutz here) and so far I have not lost any stones in my shared prong eternity. Good luck with your decision!

I would get 3/4 because it can be sized, my weight has changed alot over the years, especially after I had my kids, I like to have the ability to size my rings....even though I have to admit I really want a full eternity :naughty:

Another vote for 3/4. Also, I don't like full eternity because it makes me cringe knowing the diamonds on the bottom are constantly rubbing against things and could fall out.

That's a beautiful ring. I'm partial to full and sapphires! :twirl:

first off, GORGEOUS RING! love it!

i have a full eternity band (w/ sapphires too!) and i love it. i'd get the full over the 3/4 for the ring turning factor. they do! rings are always twisting and turning and i think you'd be constantly trying to keep the metal side on the bottom if you went with the 3/4.

if $ isn't an issue, go with the full!

I vote eternity

This is all going to depend on what's more important to you: the whole ring turning effect or the possibility of a re-size later. As mostly everyone mentioned above, the process of resizing an eternity band is rather difficult and most jewelers don't really like doing it. In terms of losing diamonds, you should only be concerned if you're very active and/or rough, as long as you're buying from a quality jeweler they should stay put.
With this in mind, for the style you chose in particular, I would go with the full! Let us know which one you choose :D

I love that ring!!!

Personally, I would go full eternity. Only because I would want to have the option of stacking it and I just think full eternities make better stacking rings. And you won't have to worry about it spinning.

I vote full eternity. I have a 3/4 and I regret getting it. I want to see diamonds 100% of the time and when my ring spins around I see plain metal too often. If your ring never budges you might be fine. But for those of us with spinning rings it's a disappointment to see the 1/4 metal band facing up. And I can still whack my diamonds when the ring has spun around.

I *think* I've decided. The eternity is symbolic for a number of reasons, which is the motivation behind the ring anyway. I'm going for the full eternity, and just have to run the risk of my knuckle getting bigger with age. In the 16 years and two pregnancies (with three kids, twins, go figure!) since I've been married, my ring size has only changed by maybe a quarter to half.

In this style of ring particularly I think it would look fantastic, and I won't have to contend with the spinning issue. It'll be sized for my right hand, but I could wear it on the left (a half size or so smaller than my right) with just the wedding band. Hopefully the picture upload will work:

BGD will get their phone call tomorrow! :appl:

Thanks everyone for your input--I really appreciate it! I'll post details when it gets here.

The picture of your three stone asscher is lovely. what is the eternity band you are getting?

the link seems to have a problem :((

The link worked for me. If you go to www.briangavindiamonds.com then search for diamond wedding bands, it's the diamond and sapphire bezel eternity there on the top row. Hopefully I'll be able to post pictures in a few weeks! :appl:
