Here are some not so great pictures I took of my spess and tanga. I must have taken 50 pictures and these are the only ones I thought were decent. I just can''t seem to figure it out. Anyway, thanks for looking!

Tanga. I can''t seem to capture the red. It doesn''t look this purple irl.

Last one. My flower shot.

One last thing... can anyone tell me why my spess shows so much extinction in the pictures I take? It is very bright and vivid orange in person. What is the best way to capture the best color?

Your garnets are pretty!

These are gorgeous pictures! Spessartites are so hard to photograph and yes, they look many times nicer in real life..

Photographing gems can be tricky. My father was trying to photograph my tanzanite, and on the photos it has a deep cobalt blue hue, whereas in real life it is violet blue.

Your spessartite looks lovely and rich in color. I also like the cut. Normally, I''m not too fond of the scissor cut, but when the stone is square rather than rectangular, it is actually rather elegant.

Thank you Kim. Welcome to pricescope! Are you a fellow garnet addict? I wish I had an answer to your question from the other post. I''m still in the learning process. I''m sure someone else will come through.

Thank you for the welcome! Tsavorite has definitely opened my eyes to the garnets. I also find many spessartites beautiful. Before that, I associated garnets with purplish and brownish tones of red, where I prefer clean, bright red. On the other hand, I would love a true purple garnet, if such a thing exists.

Those are some pretty good pics and some nice stones.

Some things I have found helpful. Play with your camera. My camera has macro and "digital macro." I actually found after playing that "digital macro" captures a more accurate color...but the price is that it is harder to get a crisp image. I found out that natural indirect light is better than artifical light.

Hope you get some more pics up, you seem to have some very nice stuff.

A lot of camera''s have an auto-white balance adjustment that can screw things up too. It makes an assumption about lighting and what your photographing about what is ''white''. In reality the human eye is pretty resiliant to changes in lighting. White always looks white to us after we get used to the lighting. The camera can''t do this so it guesses.

On my camera at least there is a manual white balance setting. Basically I can open a setting box where I can manually point my camera at something white and snap a photo. Then photos will come out better.

Those are very pretty stones! Do keep trying to take pictures you''re happy with - I''ll gladly look at lots more of those.

I became a huge garnet fan with my tsavorite. Your garnets are GORGEOUS and I love the cuts!! I have to say that after seeing all the spess'' lately, I want one!

Your garnets are very pretty I especially like the spess but I''m a sucker for bright orange. Out of curiosity did you choose the cut of the spess or was it already cut when you purchased it from Dan? Is there a type of cut that brings out the color in garnets/ makes them more brilliant?
