Are you wearing a garter and/or having a garter toss? Where did you get yours? Was it online? Is it super cute?

Nope, no garter for me!

I bought a blue one at Hobby Lobby (for something blue) and my sister is adding sea shells to it in keeping with our beachy wedding. Probably not going to do the garter toss though, since our wedding is going to be a fairly small affair.

um hey lynn i''m SUPER EXCITED that you got your garter from there, but i''m quite glad you didn''t get this one:

camoflauge deer hunters'' garter.. THATS hot.

laurel_aurelia.... you are so funny..... LMAO....did you get a garter....
hey when are you getting married or are you married?

Linda

So are you supposed to wear the garter all day? Or do brides typically put it on just before the toss, or reception or something?

Ditto. Plus, I just have incredibly thick thighs and I can never imagine those things going around my leg without cutting off circulation...

I actually had my aunt make mine for this very reason. DH stealthfully "pulled" a store bought garter from under my dress to toss 1. because the one my aunt made was too pretty to give to someone and 2. how embarassing when some skinny legged girl went to put it on and it wouldnt stay up...

No garter. I personally have always found that tradition barbaric and unappealing, and it''s invariably embarassing for *someone* (B/G or respective catchers).

Definitely no garter for me.

i won''t be tossing one either, but i still want to have one. i hadn''t thought about when to put it on. i know i don''t want it on the whole time! maybe before we exit, i can run to the restroom and slip it on?

I''m making mine - just bought the materials, so no pics yet. But I''m not doing a toss, garter or bouquet. I just really wanted a garter anyway, so that''s my plan.

I was under the impression women didn''t wear hose or stockings anymore.

I''m wearing mine without any stockings because I don''t want to wear any with my open toed shoes. If I''d had closed toed shoes I would have worn thigh highs. Either way I would have worn the same type of garter just because it''s part of the whole traditional bridal package deal- like a veil and wearing something blue - not required, but things I wanted to do.

I didn''t have a garter nor did I toss one, for the same reasons as mentioned above. Also, too many memories of prom garters in the ''80''s being hung from the rearview mirrors of Camaros. Just my .02, lol!

Note: I had a Sunday afternoon wedding and it just didn''t seem appropriate for my DH to be yanking something off my thigh and tossing it to his buddies during daylight hours..and I find it such a double standard--women don''t get to pull any undergarment off their newly DH at receptions with their teeth, period, and throw it to the LIW''s in the crowd, ha ha!

I don''t like the garter toss either.

I''m wearing a garter but we aren''t tossing it in a traditional sense of the word.... we are instead having an "anniversary dance" where all married couples join us on the dance floor and the DJ starts announcing that everyone married for a year or less leave the floor then 5 years, etc and it keeps going until we have one couple left. Then we are giving them the bouquet and garter as a way to symbolize a long lasting marriage & they can do with it what they want.
I don''t have many single friends that will be there and I hate it when an 8-year old kid catches the bouquet or you have to drag people kicking and screaming onto the floor!

We did the garter toss because I personally think they can be fun, its traditional and I have never been to a wedding without one. I also wanted to have one as a keepsake as well.

We did the garter toss with a twist. I ordered two...one was the toss garter and one was a keepsake. I wore both on the wedding day, and then before the reception, gave the keepsake garter to my husband to wear, since he was wearing a kilt.

When it came time for the toss, I sat down first and DH did a very tasteful removal of the toss garter, nothing raunchy or anything. Then he acted like he was ready to toss it, when we switched places, he sat down, and I tastefully :) reached under the kilt and pulled off the keepsake garter. No one expected it, and the whole hall erupted in laughter. It was probably even funnier because DH is a very manly/macho built former Marine. He was a good sport and we had fun with it.

I got my garters from www.hand-craftedcreations.com. I am a HUGE Hello Kitty fan and this was one way I could incorporate my love of HK into my wedding without being cheesy :). Joanne is GREAT to work with, will give suggestions and is very accomodating to designing something you want. She put pics of both my garters on her website:

Here are some pics of mine from her site:

we''re doing a garter toss. i think it''s fun and we''ve always enjoyed it and as well as the other guests at the weddings we''ve attended.

i got mine at frederick''s...very simple and pretty. it''s not a huge deal, so when i saw one that matched my dress and wasn''t too expensive, i just bought it

. FI love basketball, so I am looking for a little basketball pin or something to attach, but if not, no biggie. It''s just a nother fun ittle thing we decided to incorporate into our day

No garter or bouquet toss for us. I''ve always HATED the bouquet toss, and don''t want to subject my 30-something singleton friends to it! FI kinda wants to do the garter toss (he''s a ham), but it would look funny just to do that and no bouquet toss. So we''re passing on both.

But I do want a garter (for FI to find AFTER the reception

Here''s a silly question- which thigh does it go on- left or right? I can''t for the life of me remember where my married friends wore theirs!

not doing a garter or bouquet toss. just not for me

Ditto--my 30-something single friends would hate me for doing this so I decided to scratch it. And no garter or tossing of a garter either.

I really wasn''t into the whole garter thing, but DH insisted on it... and since I got a free garter w/my dress I used that.

What''s funny is I was totally against the whole garter toss thing but everyone really got into it - I went to one wedding where no hands went up for it and it was like the parting of the Red Sea... thankfully (or not?!) there were quite a few hands up for mine and the guy who caught it was having a lot of fun w/it and there are some great pictures. I have to say in hindsight it was quite entertaining...
