On the recommendation of PSers I found GemRite and ordered an Umbalite Garnet (inspired by BabyBlue''s stunning new ring). I''m always hesitant using a new supplier but John was fantastic. He was so helpful, gave me an honest opinion and then even took additional daylight photos.

It arrived today and WOW I''m happy! It''s 2.62ct, VS and a modified cushion cut. In all light it glitters pink/purple and there''s absolutely no brown or grey at all.

It does have some areas of extinction but I was aware of that when I bought it and in all honesty it doesn''t detract at all from the beauty of the stone. Here are some pictures and ideas of how I''m thinking of setting it. Which do you prefer?

(Please excuse the lack of handcream!)

You can see the areas of extinction in this photo:

Setting #2

Setting #3

Personally, I love the first 2 settings, but think it might be best in the first one. It''s a big stone already . . .

Isn''t John fantastic to deal with?

I like the 2nd

i like the first setting the best, and your new garnet is to die for!!

I''m loving the third one! How unexpected!!

Beautiful stone too!

Gorgeous stone, the first setting is my favorite. Is that a LOGR setting?

Very pretty stone!

Personally, I like setting 1 the best!

If it''s for a right hand ring I actually REALLY like the third one! I''d usually pick 1 or 2 but that one just catches my eye in a great way I guess!

BTW I LOVE that stone. I kept considering buying it, but I can get REALLY carried away spending money I don''t have so I bought the cheaper oval Malaya instead.

You''re right, John is wonderful!

You can''t go wrong, all the settings are beautiful!

It''s a gorgeous stone and I love the color!!

Love that stone! I like the first seting the best as well!

Beautiful stone. I like the first setting.

Another garnet!

What a beautiful stone, I like it even more from your pictures than when I saw it originally from the website. As for the setting my vote is #1, I think it''ll show off the stone better. Congratulation and I can''t wait to see it set!

#1 #1 #1!

That is just awesome

I''d go with the setting #3 cause bigger stones (over 2 carats) when used in rings need some gradual narrowing towards the shank in order to look elegant, either by the use of side stones or by this kind of setting. It''s also quite interesting and a bit unusual, definatelly not something you see every day.

Wow, I had my eye on that stone for a lil while, glad a PS''er got it - its even prettier IRL !

My vote is for #1, that setting will show it off beautifully!

Thank you all for you kind words.

All the settings are from LOGR (great settings and brilliant prices)!

I''m still undecided about the setting to go for but it looks like #1 has got the vote with PS''ers! Whatever I do, I promise I''ll post up pics when it''s set.

Oh by the way, I am so impressed with John at GemRite that I''ve gone back for more!!! Somebody take my purse away!
