I've treated myself to a few gemstone bracelets lately. Some of the stones are fragile (apatite) so I've been careful. I have a rutilated quartz coming and I already have a multicolored tourmaline. Can they be worn together? I understand they are both 7 on the mohs scale. will they scratch each other? What if I wore quartz with a spinel bracelet? Thx

Are they beads, cabochon or faceted? Prong set, string knotted or bezeled?

faceted beads

I would wear them on different wrists if you want to be extra safe. They look more like polished and rough faceted so I think if it is occasional wear, I am comfortable with pairing them up for the specific occasions.

Thanks and what about wearing them with an all gold or all silver bead bracelet?
not advisable?

Pure gold, pure silver or 14K?

I rarely stack unless they are of the same material (quartz with quartz). I also don't stack metal (22K gold and 916 silver) bangles because they scratch each other up pretty badly. Just wearing for a special occasion is fine but I don't do so on a daily / everyday basis as I've seen the wear and tear.

Hi I’m a collector of bead bracelets and one general rule I follow is to never stack them unless they’re of the same mineral/stone and finish. I stack jadeite with jadeite, tourmaline with tourmaline, and so forth. I never stack things with different mineral/stone type, different mohs hardness, and different finish ie round bead and faceted bead. Over time they get dull and lose luster. The facets also have a tendency to get worn down. I also never stack them with diamond jewelry. Taking care of your bead bracelet just a Much as taking care of your jewelry in general is important for them to retain their quality.

Thanks, I've started a little collection myself. My favorite is a peridot, apatite and mandarin garnet bracelet The apatite and peridot are tear drops and I seem to break the apatite without wearing it. I wonder if it was a mistake of the maker to pair it next to garnet which is so much harder. It's such a pretty bracelet . But I won't stack them and I'll keep wearing the separate. Thanks for the advice all
