Hello all, I am proposing with a 6 prong solitaire setting. I want to add something on the inside of the band to make it a bit more unique/personalized for her but dont want to inscribe anything. I want it to be something relating to her, or me, or where she comes from. I am a July baby. She is an October 1992 baby. She was born in China but we met in Canada. I got the idea for this gemstone addition from here: https://taylorandhart.com/us/blog/all-of-our-signature-gemstones-explained

Ideas I had: opal (her USA birthstone) or peridot (her Chinese lunar birthstone) but I've heard both are too soft. Ruby is my birthstone but seems kind of blah. I know jade is popular in China but again probably too soft. Finally was thinking of a small Canadamark diamond on the inside. Any other ideas or thoughts?

Next, what position inside the band do you think is best? I think the 6 o'clock position looks very nice but wonder how that would work with resizing. I feel like any other position other than 6 oclock or 12 oclock would look sort of strange.

What are her and your favorite colors? Or what is the birthstone for the month you met, or the month you are getting engaged?

The stone will be protected on one side by metal as in the shank of the ring, and against the finger on the exposed side.

Therefore, I do not believe hardness is an issue with the likes of Opal and Jade, IMHO.

DK :))

No but cleaning the ring to keep the diamond sparkly might damage those delicate stones. Diamonds are not cleaned the same way opals should be

I think you may also find some difficulty obtaining a stone small enough to fit in the band on some of the more delicate stones like opal, jade, etc. Do you know how wide the band is on your setting?

Ruby would be very romantic (red) and also a lucky color in Chinese culture so personally I believe ruby would be a nice choice so that she can keep you (in birthstone form) close to her finger always.

Have not decided on setting yet but band with will likely be in the 2.0-2.4mm range. As far as placement of the ruby, where do you suggest? 6'oclock is optimal but not sure about resizing aspect. Perhaps 12 oclock? Or 8 oclock since 8 is lucky in chinese?

In that case, the choice of stones will be limited for the OP!

I vote for the ruby at 8 o’clock idea. Sounds very special.

Now if I place it initially in the 8 oclock position and then it needs to get resized, that will probably change its clock position correct? Is it better to have the ruby added after its been resized? If so, I could then place it in the 6oclock position.

Rings you wear for life will constantly get resized. Pregnancy, arthritis, weight gain…. It’s usual to expect resizing more than once. Resizing will not change the band to the extent that the “o’clock” position will be substantively affected if you place it at 8. But it might interfere if it’s at 6. You could always just get the ring made in the right size in the first place!

Agree with @lonysis...put it at 8 o'clock and be done. 6 o'clock is a bad idea. You're way overthinking this.

i think the insert is a lovelly idea
like a little secret juts between two people ((and the jewler)

i like the peridot option as i love peridot
despite being a softer stone it will be protected inside the ring aganist the finger but you wont be able to clean the ring in an ultrasonic

Can rubies go in an ultrasonic cleaner?
