We''re getting an Eightstar from StevL of Dems Jewelers! This is my Christmas present from my wonderful husband.
It''s a 0.57 H I1 and will be for a pendant. Therefore I think the I1 will be OK, but of course there is a return policy should we not like it. I''m so excited! It should be here Wednesday provided the wire transfer goes through tomorrow. We''ve never seen an Eightstar in person, so we are very excited to see what all the fuss was about.

Steve has been excellent to work with thus far, and I am fairly certain we will love the stone when we get it.
I''ll be sure and post pictures when we get it.

Now I need setting ideas. I kind of like the sliding bezel look, but feel free to post other ideas. :D YAY!

Congrats Jax...

When you get the stone look at it carefully and let us know the first impression you have of the stone and compared to your other ideal cut diamond do you notice any subtle differences about the light return...

Have you seen pic's yet and where is the inclusion located?

Congrats, Jax! I love my new diamond and it's an I1.

I still don't understand what an 8 star is, though. Is it a different cut or just a really good round brilliant?

We have seen the GIA cert, mostly clouds.

We have also seen a picture of the diamond when it was in a ring. This diamond was traded in for a bigger size recently. It looked very sparkly in the picture.

I'm not concerned with it being totally eye clean as it's for a pendant and no one will be that close to it. I'm basically looking for a fireball of a stone. And if eightstar lives up to its name it should be.

So here is hoping for the best! Also, Steve said the cert looks worse than the stone does in person. I think it will be OK, because I don't think Eightstar would waste time on a very bad stone.

Plus it is probably the only way we could ever afford an eightstar this big.

I'll be sure to post our impressions when we get it.

An Eightstar is a branded cut on a Round Brilliant. It is cut to maximize light return and minimize light leakage. Here is the website that maybe can explain it more:

Jaxie,

I set my pendant into a bezel like the Tiffany, "Diamonds by the Yard" collection and it looks beautiful and very elegant. An Eightstar would look fabulous in this setting.

Here is a link to the setting:
http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/item.asp?c_id=WEB1&c_it=64P&start_id=16&search=yes&keyword=&attribute=3&category=13,60&lowprice=&highprice=&chunk=5&searchType=3&jewelry=13&metal=&jewelryIndex=&collectionsIndex=&metalIndex=&stoneIndex=&priceIndex=&homeIndex=&sLowPrice=&sHighPrice=&collections=60&stone=s3&home=&

If you're interested, I have front, side, and back photos that are pretty detailed that I can post here. For some reason I can't find them at the moment, but can look later when I have time. The Tiffany chain is too delicate, IMO, as are most of the bezel chains I looked at. One reason I like this setting a lot is it allows for a larger/stronger chain than most slide bezels are usually set with. Since I have two toddlers, I had to opt for a stronger chain. One person on DT said they lost their Tiffany by the yard necklace and didn't even notice it was gone right away because the chain was so delicate and light.

The only downside is the culet is exposed. I don't even notice mine, but some say it's scratchy.

Okay, hopefully my link works!

ignore. . .

Okay, here is one shot of the pendant I had made.

Nice pendant Michelle!!

Congrats Jax...can't wait to hear what you think about it when compared to your H&A from GOG..if you see a difference that is. I have never compared them side by side, but compared 8* side by side to a regular ideal and was not that impressed with the 8*...but then again who knows. Their scope pictures are amazing, that's for sure!

Sounds like an excellent deal and an opportune time! I would chime in and say that I would see if you like a 4 pronged pendant or something similar to what GOG has on their site (similar to what Michelle posted but not bezel), they look beautiful in person and if I had something as equisitely cut as the 8*'s are supposed to be, don't know if I'd cover up the girdle in the bezel style and possibly hinder the light movement.

Here's a picture from GOG's site, I love how it maximizes the stone!

WTG, Jax! Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Can't wait to see what you think of the diamond! Ought to be a dazzler!

That's a great style basket set that Mara posted. The illusion of the diamond floating on the chain and no ugly rabbit ears!

Do post pics of the diamond when you get it, and you pendant afterwards. Can't wait to see both!

I 1's are great for pendants, earrings or fun rings!

Thanks all!

I like that setting idea Mara. Perhaps that is what we will go with.

Sadly, the delivery of the diamond has been delayed due to an emergency at Steve's store. So I have to wait until Friday now. Ugh! the agony. :D

Sorry Jax, it is my fault the package didn't go out, but you will have it Friday.

Just to note the problem was at our new store, not a personal emergency thank goodness, those are over for a while I hope.

Happy New Year everyone!

Steve:
Oh no problem! I hope you didn't take my post the wrong way. We understand about the delay, I just wanted to update everyone on the picture status.

We're not upset at all. You have been most helpful with us. Thanks again!!
