Well third thread here in as many weeks.
Have done plenty of scouting online and B&M and finally took the GF out to most of the B&M to see what she liked. In short my initial impressions of a 3/4 six prong solitaire were spot on... at some point I gathered she would want more bling and was looking at thick rings with channel set side stones. I do believe thin is in. Classic six prong stile with a thin common prong or thin channel cut diamond wedding band was the consensus.

Helzburg she liked No way I''d pay 4800 for that... but liked the thinner band that tapered a bit.

I found a nice diamond at James Allen that I would like to use, looks like a great value. Now is anyone able to find a 18k white gold 6 prong setting that looks like the helzburg setup?

Other option I liked was this White Flash setting but I''m not finding a diamond in the price/size/quality range (.7-.8 Ideal cut G-I VS1-VS2)

Taking the GF was a great idea got me off of the side stone idea and onto classic designs both us really liked (I''ve always liked the simple setup) She decided on WG over platinum for scratching and luster reasons. I''m fine with that I''m assuming I''ll need to find a local jeweler to care for the e-ring and replate as necessary.

So Pricescope GURUS "Go do that Voodoo that you do so well!"
It would be much appreciated

Yes this diamond looks good.

That setting from JA was pretty close it may just have to do. Not 100% on it though

Definately agree with the others on the JA diamond--it looks really good.

One thing to keep in mind on the settings is that the website is showing computer renderings (CADs) The actual rings usually flow better and are not quite as harsh on the edges. You might post a request in the Show Me The Ring forum and see if someone has photos of that actual setting.

Called JA could put a 6 prong on the 2mm comfort fit but I believe that band would be too thick. Could go with the http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/diamond-solitaire-rings.html but it runs 725 versus mid 300''s and would take several extra days to get set.

Alternatively I could go with this Diamond from Whiteflash in this setting . I know that whiteflash diamond is not an HCA but how does it compare to the James Allen diamond I posted previously.

Any opinions on service after the sale from either Whiteflash or James Allen?

I think 2mm is a perfect width.. have you seen 2mm in person? its not thick at all imo... Whiteflash has great customer service I''ve bought from them several times, very pleased with my experience... does she want comfort fit?

2mm is fine for the width its the girth all the way around that is a bit disconcerting. From our brief excursion trying rings on at B&M she liked the thinner 2mm tapered rings like the helzburg one posted at the top.

Not sure what you mean by WF stone is not an HCA? You mean H&A? Should be comparable unless you want H&A. But I still prefer my suggestion. You want to pay an extra $130 for an increase in diameter of 0.02mm? Hardly noticeable I would say.

WF upgrade policy is better than JA, I think.

Update....
Talked to Tracy at Whiteflash and put Stone-Cold''s recommendation on hold. .70 I VS2

Comes down to setting choice. The mass produced classic 6 prong that I know I can get before next week when she graduates and is very similar to the mall store fare she liked.

Or pony up the extra 500 for a true Tiffany style reproduction that is a bit thicker and may not be able to get in for at least another week.

Any opinions? Is the stone choice a better one than the origional JA one I liked but wasn''t sold on a setting?

i like the sleek line myself...

I''d get the nicer setting and wait a week. But that''s only if you know that it''s going to be her ''forever'' diamond and setting. If there is any chance of a trade up in size or setting, get the cheaper one.

I perfer the Tiffany style setting.

I perfer the Tiffany style setting.
Ditto...just doesnt seem like there should be that much of a price difference does it? I hate that!

Well showed the GF pictures of the plain 6-prong vs the Tiffany style and she is definitely in the Tiffany camp.

So do I go with the JA H&A .72 I VS2 in their Tiffany look alike for about $2800....

or go with the Non ACA GIA Ex .70 I VS2 from Whiteflash with their Tiffany Knife-edge for about $2950?

Which combination is the better stone/setting combination??
Looks like I''d have to wait a few extra days to get either set and shipped to to the setting.

If your never going to upgrade with trade in go with the JA and save the $150

Last call for opinions... literally going to make the call soon.

Agree with stmrdr, also see which one will be able to deliver in time.

Well took the plunge. Went with Whiteflash cost me about 200 more but I just got a better vibe all the way around, and it appears that their customizing of the ring and prongs to the specific stone is much better.

And they will have it shipped out next thursay...In time for her masters degree graduation Friday.

Glad the process is over....

You''ll have a great looking ring to give her, best of luck!

Make sure to come back with pictures.

Congrates!!

Good luck. :)

It shipped. Proposal tomorrow likely before her masters hooding.
