I''m so excited! I was hanging out with my BF a few days ago, and, out of the blue, he told me that he had just met his last financial goal before seriously looking at rings. While he has been saving up for the ring during the last few months, he was also saving up for an emergency fund in case of a financial problem. As of his last paycheck, his ideal sum for the emergency fund was met, so he told me that he can now save up most, instead of just a small part, of his earnings towards a ring.

I still think that it will be around another year before we get engaged, but I''m still happy that we''re getting closer!

We''ve discussed my ring preferences before, but I''ve never actually tried any on. I went to try on various sizes today and was surprised at how big a 1 carat looks on my finger! I have size 2.5 fingers, BTW. Actually, they''re probably 2.25, since my size 2.5 promise ring is a little loose.

The 0.5 and 0.625 carats were too small for my taste. The 0.75 was also slightly smaller than what I''d like on my finger, but the 1 carat looked enormous! It looked great from a distance, but a bit TOO big up close.

So do you ladies think that I should lean towards the 1 carat anyway due to possible future shrinkage? My BF will pick out the stone anyway, but he''d like some input as to which size I''d prefer.

Ooooooo...congratulations!

As far as what size diamond to go with, on your teeny little fingers, everything''s gonna look HUGE.

I think what''s most important is what you''re comfortable with. For now, that sounds like something less than a carat. Remember, you can always add bling with your wedding band(s)!!!

Wow! Such tiny fingers .........if only i had fingers like that!

I agree that what ever you choose will look huge but I know from experience that shrinkage does set in quickly so I would go for the 1 carat if I were you.

YAY! That's fantasitic!

FWIW, one of my very good frends has fingers about your size. Her diamond is 2 carats and she wears 3 other bands with it! Yup - it goes all the way up to her knuckles. She is VERY over the top and VERY into jewelery. All big stuff.

The 2 Ct looks fantastic on her!

Go big! That's my vote!

Wow my fingers would eat your fingers for breakfast! I wear a 6.5 and my soon to be e-ring is .73 which I think is fabulous so it''s really all about personal taste. I think the 1 carat mark seems to be the sweet spot for a lot of women so if it''s in the budget why not? It won''t take long to get used to it I''m sure

Good luck!

YES!!!!!

Before I got my ering I would never have believed in future shrinkage but my lovely stone (bless it) is shrinking before my very eyes. I can't even tell anyone because they won't understand - the average engagement ring size here in the UK is 0.25ct

so everyone I know thinks my diamond is HUGE because it's just over 1ct.

If your Bf's budget will stretch to a 1ct (without compromising colour/cut/clarify) then go for the larger size

Thanks for your responses, ladies!!!

It''s both a blessing and a curse to have tiny fingers. I wanted to wear rings when I was in college, but it was impossible to find any in my size! Also, the lowest size in many stores or online vendors is 3, so I''d need to have my ring custom made, which would take longer. On the bright side, my BF always jokes about getting more bang for the buck when he buys my ring.

I am leaning towards the 1 carat, but maybe I''ll try going to a store than has rings with stones in the .8 or .9 range and see how they look. I couldn''t imagine wearing anything above 1 carat, but maybe I''ll try on a 2 carat one for fun!
