I''m just curious what other ladies did with their wedding dress if they didn''t want to keep it.

I would really like to just give my dress to someone who needs it, but not sure how to do that. I''m not the sentimental type so I have no desire to keep it around.

Humm.. but don''t brides for both of those sites still have to BUY the dress? I guess I was hoping to find a way to give my dress, gratis, to someone.

Perhaps I''m splitting hairs.

craigslist?

There was a blog about this on Wedding Bee. Thrift shops will always take your gown. You might also want to try church groups.

I''m am also donating my gown. I live in the DC area, so St. Anthony''s would be a start. I also saw one of the bridal salon have a donate your dress month, and they organized the charity giveaway.

You can give and get items for free. My mom used it when selling the house and it was great!Free Cycle

True, but they''re discounted quite a bit, and the money goes to a good cause (the Making Memories Foundation, which is like Make A Wish, but for people with terminal breast cancer). So if you''re looking to do a good deed for someone, this works too.

Otherwise, you could advertise on the Weddingbee.com classifieds, The Knot, Craig''s List, etc.

I''m going to try to sell it online. It''s kind of silly to keep such an expensive item just to have it sit in the closet. Maybe I''ll change my mind once I actually have one.

I have a shirt from college that I still can''t let go of so maybe it''s easier said than done... at least for me.

Sparkalicious: I''m thinking of using preownedweddingdresses too to sell the dress that was NOT THE one (bought it in a whim). How long did it take you to sell yours?

Kunzite: I also would suggest brides against breast cancer. While you don''t give your dress per se to someone ALL the proceeds go to charity-so it is like giving it to someone.

i also agree with the brides against breast cancer suggestion. that''s where i will be donating mine after the wedding.

as a sidenote, they also have a program where you can give them your old diamond jewelry and they will sell them with the profits going towards breast cancer research. i believe it''s called diamonds for dreams.

I attended a Brides Against Breast Cancer sale today and it was great! There were tons of beautiful dresses at reasonable prices, it is for a great cause and I could browse to my heart''s content (very low stress environment).
