My dress came via DHL today! I was so scared to open the package....I kept thinking, "What if I don''t like it?" My wedding is three weeks away!"

Unlike most of you wonderful brides, we don''t have wedding dress stores where I live, so I had to order my dress online. It came from a company in China that makes custom made wedding dresses! I got it for US$89!! Anyway, the risk of that is that I had no idea how the dress would feel or look when it actually came in person. That''s why I was afraid to open it.. I didn''t do it till 5 hours later!! But my dress is BEAUTIFUL!! I AM SOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!

How did you feel to get THE dress? Isn''t it a wonderful experience?

When I started looking at gowns, I wanted something really simple. After trying several things on, I ended up buying something with more detailing than I originally anticipated.

As all brides know, the waiting period between ordering the dress and RECEIVING the dress provides ample time for you to doubt your decision at least 800 times. And I did.

When my dress arrived--I bought it in the midwest, then had it shipped to new england where I lived--I was actually scared to open the package because I feared I'd hate it. I was forced to have the package shipped to my office (because of the signature requirement) and when the receptionist dropped it off at my desk a couple of my coworkers persuaded me to open it slightly, just to get a glimpse of it. So I opened it, got a glimpse and HATED it. What I saw was the detailing on the bust, so there was sequins, small crystals, beading, etc. and I thought "oh my god, what have I done, this is SO NOT what I wanted." The entire trip home I came up with ideas for a second dress.

Then when I got home, I put it on and I remembered why I fell in love with it in the first place. I loved it and there was no turning back. It looked even better a few weeks later after the preliminary alterations had been made!

And of course after all the fretting, the money, the time spent trying to make sure it's perfect, etc. I spent a total of maybe 8 hours in it. Fantastic 8 hours, though!

So exciting that you got the dress, Sha!! When is your first fitting?

I''m glad you LOVE your dress!!! Must post pics ASAP!

I freaked out about the dress every time I didn''t see it for more than a couple weeks, so while I was waiting for it to be shipped, in between fittings, etc. I LOVED it every time I saw it or put it on though

We need to see some pics of yours!!!

I had doubts about my dress all the time, right up till my wedding day. I didn''t enjoy wedding dress shopping and picked it in less than an hour, so I was stressing that I didn''t look hard enough, should have given it more time, etc. But every time I put it on, I felt like a princess. And on the day itself, when it was properly corseted and done up, I think it looked fabulous

Sha, do tell! Where did you get the dress?

It's nice to hear everyone's experiences.

I didn't think I would feel so excited about mine. Of course I still haven't tried it on yet, but I'm assuming it'll fit since it's custom made. (hope I haven't gained weight, though).

DMBsgirl, I ordered the dress from a company called 1koo.com - 1koo wedding dresses here . (you have to scroll down to see the full page). They have casual dresses, to formal gowns, to destination wedding dresses, to maternitiy dresses etc. etc. For very reasonable prices!!

Will post pictures hopefully tomorrow!

Hi Sha!

I can't wait to see pictures! I ordered a ball gown from an Ebay seller just like that, and it turned out beautiful!

I thought my dress would be the hardest thing about the wedding, seriously. Yet, it turned out to be the easiest. I think I've been trying to pick a dress out since I was 10, LOL. I just love way too many different styles so it's always been difficult to know exactly what I wanted. After I was engaged, I took things a bit more seriously, but was just at a loss. I had pages of dresses saved, all $5000 and up, my favorite being about $8000! I was pretty stuck and stubborn on it....

When getting my ring setting figured out in Melbourne, FL, we drove by a tiny bridal shop on the same road. We both figured, eh, better check some out in person just to get a feel for it. I walked in knowing I would dismiss everything I saw....god I'm stubborn!!!!

Well, you know how things look boring on the hanger. Everything looked that way to me. I told the nice woman there I wanted something beautiful and unique, something you wouldn't see anyone else in, but was still like a 'wedding dress'. Apparently she knew what I was talking about because she pulled this dress out from the others, saying it was new and discontinued. And there I was thinking, oh man, it must be soooo ugly then.

Well, it was the first one I tried on, and it was THE ONE. As soon as I put it on, everyone just went OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Other people looking around in the store even came over to say how cool it was. Well I was convinced right then and there! :-) I guess I didn't need convincing though, because not only did I LOVE it, but I loved it a LOT more than those $8000 ones I had been drooling over;-)

Yes, it's an AWESOME feeling, I agree!
Please post pictures of yours!
Here is a pic of mine.....the picture doesn't do it justice, but there is a bigger one in my gallery:-)

Sha, I can''t wait until you post pictures! I can''t believe how cheap those dresses are! Not to mention the fact that they are custom made. I''m small on top and big on bottom, so its very rare that I can find any dresses that fit me. Thanks for posting!!

Sha - I''ve been thinking about getting a custom made dress on eBay also! But the fit part scares me.
Did you take your own measurements? Or did you go to a tailor (or someone who has experience taking measurements)?
Congrats on finding the dress, and can''t wait to see pics!

I ordered mine sight unseen because it is a special customized order of a dress that was only in a catalog. My bridal shop''s owner said "trust me" and I took the chance. I could see by the samples she had on the floor, she had good taste and a good eye.

Second fitting was Saturday, and I wish we had remembered to take a digital camera with us. It is perfect. It is THE DRESS. In my wildest dreams, I did not think I could look that good. The dress is absolutely ''me'' and the FI is going to love it. I am short at 5''1" with an ample, but hourglass, figure. The princess seaming makes me svelte (along with the Spanx!), the A-line give me the right balance, and the fabric just flows over my curves. It is the ONLY dress I have tried that did not look like IT was wearing ME! It has a small chapel train that is perfect for my short stature, but still really elegant.

I promise, we will remember the camera next Saturday for the final fitting! I swear, knowing I''m gonna look great, and the FI is going to be gaga, is all I need to make Oct. 21 the perfect day!

Sha,

Congrats! Can''t wait to see pictures! As you know, I bought several on ebay, but I also considered getting one made, but I just don''t know what exactly it is I LOVE...you know what I mean?

I bought the sample I tried on, so I can''t say how it felt to receive the dress all boxed up...but I can tell you this: I was soooo freaked out driving the dress 3 hours back home to Chicago from Indy...we''d had a major snowstorm and I was so worried I''d end up in a snowy ditch and my dress would end up getting ruined. Never mind the condition of myself or my car, all I cared about was the safety of the wedding gown, LOL!
