IMG_1116.JPG IMG_1117.JPG IMG_1118.JPG IMG_1119.JPG IMG_1120.JPG In the interest of obtaining a super high quality sapphire, I stumbled across this one. The vendor claims it is incredibly high quality and says he wants 6000 US dollars for it. He says it is GIA certified and is 2.58 carats. He also claims that it is only heated. Can someone say if they think it's a fair price?? It seems awfully high to me. Thanks!

Another day, another sapphire! Am I reading this right $6,000?! You said the Yvonne Raley sapphire was out of budget but that was around $900 so color me confused lol! It is a nice looking sapphire though.

Yep- it's way out of my budget for right now! But hubby wants to know if that's the kind of stone worth saving up for. Hence why I posted the question! He says maybe it's time to start investing in high quality gems and buying one instead of several inexpensive ones?

Okay I'm confused Fred, are you married to Macky? I know Macky won an auction yesterday for a sapphire so I was surprised to see this post today.

In any event it looks like a very nice stone, maybe others will weigh in as well on the cost and whether that is a fair price.

Methinks you asked the appropriate question StephanieLynn........I'll get the popcorn started.

Yep! Fred19 is my hubby! He wanted to buy me a ruby and I said of course you need to double check pricescope! ;)2:rolleyes2::geek2:

And now he is like let's just save up and get one nice stone. He knows I like both sapphires and rubies. :)

And oops! I see where the confusion lies. He must have logged into my account when he made the first post! LOL.

Okay I got it now, well it's great to have a couple here, makes it more fun when the husband is as excited about gemstones as the wife!

I think I actually have an addiction to buying gemstones. I want to buy a new one every day. :O

Nothing wrong with that if you have the money for it! I know that feeling though you think you're done and then there is another stone that catches your eye....yup know all about that :Up_to_something2:

Well, let's just put it this way- I spend all of
my disposable income on gemstones. :O

BTW- I decided not to purchase that sapphire that I won yesterday. I was all set to purchase it after I won it but my hubby didn't like it so I decided not to. :/

You know what you might want to look into is seeing if there are any gem shows in your area. I went to one recently and there is just nothing like being able to see all types of stones in person.

Ooh that sounds amazing! Will see if I can find one. Thanks for the tip! :)

Going by the GIA lab report that stone is reasonably dark. Do you know the vendor's photography style? How do his photos compare to stones IRL?

I mentioned that I had been buying a lot of asian beauty products. In that context I made the classic newbie mistake on another forum. I have been enjoying buying and learning so much, that I find I hit buy and then immeditely start shopping for the next item. Ofcourse my purchase take 1-4 weeks to restock and ship from japan or korea. And by that stage I have already bough 2 more things... Often I then discover that 'X really doesn't suit me. I really prefer products with Y' and look in dismay at the other similar items which are already enroute to me. I could ship them back... but that wouldn't be economical. By the time the products arrive and I can try them, I am already excited about the next thing and I put half of them away in the draw. Lol, I am having a good time but the process is rather wasteful. Sometimes I wonder what else I could have got with all that money.

Yes exactly- that's what hubby and I are starting to think. Just are considering whether it's worthwhile to buy one super high quality stones or keep on with the trajectory of buying several not so high quality stones but stones that I love nevertheless. :/

This is probably poor advice, but my experiance is never put in more than you can afford to lose.

After that wait and see if you like the dark sapphire which is already coming your way . This new stone you are looking at is probably quite dark (I am guessing the vendor photos are flooded with light). Some people love that look. It is a matter of taste. But more information never hurts, we can't tell you what is right for you.

Agreed. Also, I found that one may need several days to really 'see' a new gem, especially when you are not experienced. When I bought my first star, it took me days to figure out how to see the star. If impatient, I would have returned it right away, but now I'm all happy with it.
