very different, I''ve never seen a plot like that.

I have asked Al Gilbertson to comment here. He had some great insight about this configuration - it''s a variation of the Lisbon Cut but with more steps on the pavilion, making it a little more interesting.

While this variation is seldom seen, I suspect it is a repaired older stone. The facet design is very much like the crown of the Lisbon Cut (horizontally-split crown bezel or main facets). If not for the horizontal split mains, the crown would be a typical brilliant style such as the Regent or Cullinan II and IV. Cutters from that period made all kinds of variations, including adding more step rows on the pavilion and splitting the mains. The Lisbon does not have the rounded corners as this one does—but again, from this period (1680’s to early 1900’s) all sorts of variations were done.

Well Storm, is it ''kicken'' or ''kick it to the curb''?

I''m gonna vote to the curb. The step cut pavilion looks like one big window to me (and I normally like step cuts)

that is so unique its kicken

It was ugly until it had a good story

. I love this place.

p.s. You guys talking with Mark, tell him thanks for the photo, it made this an interesting discussion.

Although this diamond isn''t for me, I think it is an excellent alternative for the Tiffany Legacy lovers.

That crossed my mind too, but I''ve never seen an actual plot for a Legacy. Could it be there''s finally a Legacyesque cut floating around???
Hey..., so far its just the plot...
I am willing to bet GIA messed it up again

Mark at ERD was gracious enough to follow up with this stone. It sure is nice but unfortunately it''s not what the GF had in mind.
This Diamond has similar faceting..., (except it has only two steps on the pavilion where the one posted seem to have one more step towards the culet, and a closed culet).

But I still dont know why gemologists at the GIA have such a problem getting the plot assigned correctly
