Hello everyone,

I’m looking at a diamond that has a GIA report number inscribed on its girdle, but appears to be done by another company because the font is different and it does not have the GIA logo before the number. The characteristics of the GIA report appear to match those of the stone. the certificate does not indicate any inscription so I imagine it was done by someone else. Is this common for the report number to be inscribed onto the girdle by a separate company?

Hello and welcome to the boards! If the diamond has a GIA report number on the girdle, then it would have been inscribed by the GIA itself (they don't send them out to be lasered). How old is the report? They offer a service where they will review the diamond in question and compare it to their original report to make sure they are one and the same. So that's always an option. Good luck!

Common? No, not particularly, but it does happen. If GIA does it, it has the logo. This was done after the inspection by someone else.
