Came across this and was wondering if this is good color for paraiba? No budget to buy one now but a large paraiba cab or sugarloaf is on my holy grail list...

It certainly looks huge on the finger which is what caught my eye (plus I love pears). Looks a little pale on the pic with white background so would it be right to say this is not top quality? Will it still be glowy you think?

Description
The color says it all- Paraiba tourmaline is one of the rarest of gems, and this one has the "it" color: a glowing neon turquoise- sometimes called "swimming pool blue". This large stone is from the original mines in Brazil. This particular stone has good saturation with a blue tint, rather than the more common greenish overtone. Very, very beautiful stone that will command attention.

Weight: 9.89 ct.
Measurements: 16.40 x 12.00 x 7.20mm
Clarity: Lightly included, but overall effect is transparent.
Treatment: Heat, clear oil.

IMO not worth the money they're asking. Plus, oil. just sayin.

So FWIW they can ask for whatever they want and if the market will bear it, someone will buy it. But its a NOPE from this side of the peanut gallery.

Oh oiling is not normal? I thought I read somewhere in PS that heating is routine and so is oiling/clarity enhancement. So oiling for paraibas is not like oiling for emeralds? o_O

Oil and resin is new for paraiba. It’s not fully accepted yet. At least this one is disclosed. Many aren’t. No idea the asking price so can’t say whether it’s reasonable. I’d say it’s more translucent than transparent.

Heat is acceptable, most would never be that color without it. Oil and other clarity enhancers are not....at least not by purists.

Oil and some clarity enhancers are accepted for emeralds but do lower the value.

I think I have seen them run 20% off sales. But with the oil and the price ~1k/ct., I think I'd pass. Also does that vendor ship to SG? Most etsy vendors dont.

Cecile Raley designs and paraiba international both also stock paraiba cabs.

Unless it’s a deeper blue which Brazil produces and is hardly in Mozambican stones, I’d take Mozambican to save on price. There is a premium for Brazilian stones even though they look the same as Mozambican. Also, Brazilian are usually smaller and there was a time when supply was diminishing, I heard from Bangkok dealers that traders from Brazil began buying back the Brazilian stones from then including nice Mozambicans and also went to Mozambique to buy directly to fill the gap of supply and demand. So some stones sold as Brazilians are actually from Mozambique.

Thank you @chrono, @Arcadian, @qubitasaurus, @princessandthepear and @Seaglow

I’ll continue looking and asking here if I spot any potentials. Thanks again.

If you look on Loupe Troop someone is selling a cabochon pear paraiba ring made by the same vendor.

maybe this would be more budget friendly?

I saw that and I liked the color but there’s a very viable inclusion that will drive me nuts and also I’m looking for something a bit bigger.

I looked but nothing in the size I’ll prefer.

This is a good tip, thanks!
