Hi folks.

I''m going with my boyfriend to visit his mother over the holidays and I have to get her a holiday/Christmas/Birthday gift. I have absolutely no idea what to get her! I don''t want to get her jewelry or clothes since she''s taken care of by her boyfriend. I want to get her something girly, but I just don''t know what.

In the past, I''ve gotten her some scented cream and a picture frame with a picture of me and my boyfriend.

I have a fall-back idea, but I don''t think it''s feminine enough.

Any suggestions?

What''s your fall-back idea???

is she into jewelry? if so what about an ultra sonic cleaner.

Tickets to a show? A gift cert for a manicure and spa pedicure? A gift cert for tea for two at a local tea room? Subscription to a cool magazine? CDs? DVDs (think chick flicks)? An ultrasonic jewelry cleaner? A beautiful fountain pen? One of those facial or foot spa things you can get at Bed Bath & Beyond?

She''s VERY into jewelry so the cleaner is not a bad idea... but I almost feel like it''s a little cold...

My fall-back idea was personalized golf balls. It could be cute, and my bf is pushing them, but they''re not expensive at all (not that I need to spend a lot, but I feel like I should spend more than that...) and also it''s just not girly.

Argh!

Cute Tea Set with assorted teas? Same idea but with coffee?
Pretty candles? Who doesn''t love candles?
Pretty jewlery box with maybe a simple pendant?

Does she belong to a country club/private course or does she just go to local golf courses? If she doesnt have a club, you could buy her the personalized golf balls and a certificate for a round of golf? Does one of those huge cashmere scarf/shawl things count as clothes? Or a spa gift certificate...if you wanted to turn it into something to spend with her, have you treat her to a spa day and lunch. Tickets to the symphony or some performance, if they like that stuff. Those would be my ideas, I agree that the cleaner has sort of a cold feeling...

I got my MIL a beautiful crystal wine stopper one year in the shape of a Christmas tree. She had admired one I had when we hosted a dinner at our house, so I got her the same one. She loved it, although she only drinks wine on special occasions, but always has it hand.

Suggestion: find out some of her interests/hobbies...does she love any crafts, or a certain vacation spot? You could tie your gift idea into something she loves, and it would be meaningful and thoughtful.

Thanks for all of the help!

I was orginally going to get her a crystal-decorated compact, but then found out that my bf had gotten her the same exact thing (and the same one I was thinking of too, oddly), a couple of years ago.

The problem is is that this woman has everything. We don''t live in the same state, so getting spa stuff is very difficult since I don''t know anything in her area. She lives in a gated community that has golf and tennis and all that included. She has a boyfriend who buys her literally everything in terms of clothing and jewelry, so those things are out of the question. So, the gift I would get her would be out of thought and not usefulness.

I like the idea of the cashmere throw/shall, but the good quality ones are more than I want to spend (and she would know the difference) and she lives in Florida, so it doesn''t really get cold.

I think I might just have to suck it up and get the golf balls, and maybe something else golf-related, but I''m still searching for something else.
