Girdle hidden in setting

Hey everyone. I got engaged in October but I just started getting really interested in fine jewelry recently. While looking around the internet I’ve only seen halo settings where the girdle sits above the setting so that it’s still visible. Upon inspecting my own ring, I’m 99% percent sure that the halo is around the girdle, so I’m pretty sure the inscription isn’t visible.

This concerns me, because my fiancé bought the diamond himself and then went to a jeweler to get it set. He didn’t think to ask for confirmation if that’s his diamond upon getting the finished ring back. I guess I’m just worried that there’s a possibility that the diamond got swapped out. What do you think I should do?

Do you know if the diamond is GIA graded with an inscription on the girdle ?

What is the clarity grade on the stone?

If you can’t see the inscription due to the orientation of the prongs or the halo is covering the girdle your only option is to loupe the stone, and being FL you will see no inclusions will be totally clean. Or if you want to really have peace of mind remove the diamond from the setting match the inscription on the stone to the grading report and reset it again.

Thank you for the helpful information. Do you know if there is a reason for why a jeweler would set it like that?

If it's any help, in the thread I created, my jeweller actually set the center higher so I could see the inscription. I asked for it to be lowered as I don't actually care. Then again I'm maybe being naive and trusting the jeweller. If you don't plan to sell it, does it matter? Or is it you just don't trust the person who made it?

Of course it does!. I'd wanna be sure it is my diamond.

Considering that my fiancé spent a long time researching and finding a diamond he loved and got a really good price it for I would say yes.

Especially since it’s pretty much the perfect emerald diamond.
Color D
Clarity FL
Polish and symmetry: excellent
And the ratio is pretty much near ideal for the cut.

Given the time and effort he spent and the quality of the diamond, I would agree with @Dancing Fire

... Well, we can say with 100% certainty that your stone, now, does NOT match the condition stated on the report! Not because your jeweller switched your stone, but because an FL ceases to be an FL pretty much as soon as it’s worked on (ie. Mounted). It is now of IF clarity.

If you have no reason to believe the stone has been switched then I think there’s no reason to believe the stone has been switched. Your jeweller is strongly incentivized to not do this, knowing what fallout would be if discovered. You can always take it to an independent appraiser if you want extra assurance - https://www.pricescope.com/appraisers

I recommend you not take a loupe you your stone until your ring has been professionally cleaned - without a professional cleaning you’re bound to find something that concerns you, since IF clarity leaves no room for interpretation of severity.
