Okay, since I''m considering a 3 stone bezel set ring, how does girdle width come into play? Does it matter if it''s thin or thick? Also, if I''m considering a bezel setting what other things should I take into consideration to maximize white light and brilliance (I may be using "white light" wrong). Do I have to reconsider color grading and/or clarity grading? I want my ring to sparkle, sparkle, sparkle.

Hi Lanee!

Since the experts are taking a while to answer your question, I'll hazard a guess, and then I'm sure they'll pop in and correct me.

I believe that with a bezel setting you actually don't need to worry as much about thin girdles, since they'll be protected from chipping. I don't know of any drawback to thicker girdles other than the usual --- wasted weight.

As for maximizing brilliance, it is my understanding that only light that enters through the top of the diamond will exit throught the top anyway. (I'm not sure if that's strictly accurate, though.) If that's correct, then a closed setting will not diminish light return, and considerations of color and clarity should be the same as always too.

All right experts, have at me!

Thanks Mel,

I think the experts clock out at 5 and I don't usually get around to posting until later. I think we like a similar style ring if I'm correct so did you worry about the same thing. This is so much harder than I thought it would be when I started searching for my e-ring so long ago.

BTW, I'm sure Mel and I both would appreciate some expert confirmation or correction of her theory.

Thanks.

I believe that we do have similar taste, Lanee.

But my husband is not a big fan of the bezel setting, therefore my stone will be prong set, therefore I made sure not to get a stone with a thin or very thin girdle.

You folks would really get a better response rate by posting in the proper forum.

Technical questions about diamonds (girdle, H&A, etc.) are usually posted in the Rocky Talk forum. Diamond Hangout is more like the "coffee house" where people just chat about stuff in general, which is nice but tends to get less "foot traffic" than the regular Rocky Talk forum.

Try reposting there, and I'm sure you'll get some responses.

Alright, I'm reposting.
