I've had this stone for a few years and it came with a Thai cert stating it was unheated, so back when I bought it, I felt confident (this was pre-PS days - lol). With all of the discussions about heating/treatment of sapphires showing up on stones with Thai certs, I decided to just put it away until I sent some stones to AGL. To be honest, it went to the back burner for a long time.

It's an interesting stone, in that although it is a light pink (similar to what some vendors call pastel) it is glowy (almost silky looking), not sparkly and looks different (the glowy part) from any pink sapphire I've seen. It's an emerald cut, and while it's not US precision, it's not bad - no window or blaring probIems with the cut that I can see. The vendor rated it at VS2 and that seems fair. It's got some stuff going on under a loupe or with a macro photo, but it's mostly eye clean, probably because of the silkiness.

I finally sent it to AGL with some of my other stones/rings and it came back UNHEATED!!!!! YAY!!!! Considering that I didn't get good news on all of my stones, I was quite pleased that this one came back as I hoped. The bad thing is that it is almost the same color as my skin so I'm not sure if Ill set it.

The BEST thing about the stone is the glow. It glows like crazy under LW UV and SW UV and even in my office with a LW UV shining on it. It is also one of those stones that is very difficult to photograph. The stone isn't mounted, it's just sitting on a setting in some of the photos. The lighter looking photos were taken outside with my cell phone.

Pretty! I really like it! What if you set it in a contrasting gold colour, would that help with the "disappearing" effect?

Love that color! I've always had a thing for the pastel sapphires.

P.S. I see what you mean about glow. I think it would like nice in 18k yellow gold. How do you plan on setting it?

Thanks! I don't know... that's one of the reasons (in addition to getting it tested) that it was on the back burner. Even with a richer metal color, it would vanish on me as a solitaire.

Thanks! I'm usually more of a vivid stone person, but I do like the silkiness.

That's an issue. Maybe you could do a setting heavy on the metal and some purple accent stones or something.

I love the glow & it is a nice color, almost morganite looking. Could you go heavy on the yg or maybe halo it -- I like the idea of purple, or even blue sapphires as a halo?

Yummm!

I probably shouldn't mention this on the board and I guess heating would bring down the value. But I wonder if the color could become more to your liking? Of course it might loose some of the qualities that make it unique ( like having a daytime glow and of course being unheated), and the results might be unpredictable. It like it as is.

I love stories like these! That is a sizeable, uncommonly colored and cut sapphire. Great that it is unheated. I love that pastel pink too, but see what you mean about competing with skin tone. What about in Summer? Do you have tan hands? That might decide it for me cuz I think it would look awesome against brown skin. =)

So true. Or really pale ivory skin.

I have a very vivid pink sapphire which is one of my favorite rings, so heating this one doesn't really interest me. I like it as it is also, just not on me :(( But I do love the fluor that is has. Maybe I should just hang out under black lights.... nah, those days are gone.....

Yes, it would look awesome against brown skin, but the only brown my skin would do (these days) is get those nasty age spots, so I avoid getting sun on my hands... unfortunately, I'm in the 30 block on your face and hands crowd.

Exactly! It would contrast nicely with pale ivory skin!!!

It doesn't look to me like it disappears on your skin at all. Maybe it looks different in real life than in the pictures. I LOVE the color and love the way it looks in that setting. It's the color I thought padparadschas were before I actually saw any, when I had just read about them. I think you should totally set it and wear it! If not as a ring, then as a pendant long enough to fall over your shirt, so that the color wouldn't be right against your skin. It's so pretty I can't stand the thought of you not doing something with it!

Actually, it is similar in color to some of the pale padparadschas I seen (online), and I did (secretly) hope that AGL might thinks so too, but no..... :(sad

Yes. You could do some kind of long art nouveau style pendant!

I don't think heating would make it more vivid (unless the temperature was ridiculously high and there was BE around :naughty:) but it would probably do away with the silkiness which makes it unique.

I really like the stone and I think you should set it and wear it.

How about putting it in a diamond halo with rose gold?

Heating will not improve the colour much but it is likely to dissolve some of the silk, unless you throw in some beryllium. What this stone needs is a strong metal colour. Perhaps a very coppery rose gold will set of the soft pink colouration better and allow it to stand out on your hand. I don't think a butter yellow gold will do much of it but I could be wrong.

Ditto Chrono, I just can't see this stone in yellow gold. I think rose gold would be gorgeous with your lovely stone!

Halo it to deepen the color a bit. That's a really nice stone. I like the light pink and the sleepiness of it. Congrats on finding out its unheated, and I would keep it that way.

That would be a more traditional look. Like pink diamonds in pink gold. I prefer more contrast myself. Just goes to show how many possibilities there are with your stone!

Oh wow, really pretty. What a treat that it came back unheated!

This is true! I also think it would look great in white gold although I'm wondering if that would wash it out a bit...

The first picture shows the sapphire mounted in white gold.
