My sisters and I are going to a bridal salon on Friday to try on dresses for the first time--I'm excited! Any tips for a first time shopper?

Extra deodorant! LOL, it gets damn hot changing in and out of gowns!

Try on things you don''t think would look good. You never know.

Take pics and post them on PS!!

Try on anything and don't wear skimpy undies. Rock the boy shorts.

ETA: Take pics for PS. Mandatory.

The obvious, strapless bra or brazier unless you know they have them to use. I also brought a bottle of water and towel to wipe to sweat off my brow - no kidding! These two items were my life saver. Also, when taking pictures, I found the best results were without a veil, the veil interrupts the overall line and detail of the dress IMHO.

And don''t forget the camera!

Also, don''t forget to bring heels about the same height you''re intending to wear at your wedding. If you want to try on different size heels, bring a couple different shoes so you know about how much needs to be hemmed or if what heel height you''d be more comfortable in.

yes, definitely bring the right height shoes (though wedding shop should have). the shop should should also have a corset and all the other stuff you might need. also good to wear your hair up or down the way you plan to do it on your wedding day so you can get a better idea how your shoulders and neck will look.

if you''re short, don''t let them make you stand on a box. of course the dress will look more beautiful but you won''t get the right impression as you aren''t that tall in real life. best to just stand on the floor and let them fold the dress under so that you can really see it at your length. some dresses will not look good shortened as they lose the right proportion.

Bring an open mind! I went into dress shopping with a good idea of what I wanted and didn''t want, however I told the SAs in each shop to recommend a few gowns based on their experience and I am so glad I did. Several shops came up with the same style for me and they were nothing like I had originally planned. I am just thrilled with my dress, I just can''t wait to wear it!!!!

Ditto what everyone else said. My main piece of advice would be try on things that are different than your style. You never know what will look awesome on you. Have a blast, too!!!

And the camera needs to join you as well.

I never thought about this! Good piece of advice! I will have to try this out tomorrow!

I think just big knickers and deodorant wipes is all I brought with me. Best of luck trying them on!!

i just brought a strapless bra, fortunately, i did my dress shopping in the winter and didn''t sweat all too much

bring an open mind as others have mentioned but also remember to be true to yourself, i went to ten dress shops over a span of a couple of weeks and tried on many, many different styles, but the one i ended up buying still says me, the reason i am saying this is because most likely many dresses will look great on you, but it''ll help you decide when you look in the mirror and say, this is ME! ok, FANCY ME!

I hope this isn''t too late, but don''t be afraid to be honest. It will make the process go so much more smoothly and will help you find "the" dress or at least "the" style. I confused many an associate in my hunt because I would comment about the dress alone versus the dress + me in it total package. Most of the dresses will be gorgeous, but once the associate knows exactly what you do like/want/are looking for, it will help them help you find the right dress/style.

Also, I would recommend going alone or with as few people as possible. Too many opinions can make your mind melt and really strong opinions can overwhelm your own sometimes.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! The dress shopping went REALLY well, but I couldn''t take any pictures.

Out of all the ones I tried on, it turned out that all the ones I liked were by the same designer, Lea-Ann Belter (which was weird, because we didn''t know that when I tried them on). Here are the pictures from the designer''s website.

Dress #1 - Alyssa

Dress #2 - Maya

Dress #3 - Laurel

Dress #4 - Carolina

Things I determined from dress shopping:

1. Mermaid styles are a big NO on me. They just look odd. The ones I gravitated towards were A-Lines (which I was expecting) and Sheaths (which I really wasn''t expecting). I tried on a couple of Amy Michelson dresses, but while I LOVED the backs, the fronts tended to be a little too low cut. I''m also going back next month when they are having an Augusta Jones trunk show to try on one of her dresses that I really love.

2. I tended to like dresses that had a bit of a vintage feel to them. Even though the dresses I liked were all very different styles, they all were very classic shapes.

3. Weekdays are the BEST time to go to bridal salons because they are not busy and have plenty of time to help you.

4. It is harder than I thought it would be to sneak pictures--the consultant was basically with me at all times.

Thoughts on the dresses? Suggestions of other designers/styles to look at? Sorry there are no pictures of me in them--I will try to do better next time I go.

Theyre all beautiful, but I''m partial to number 4. That bolero is gorgeous!!

Maya and Carolina!

Yup! The cowl back is yummy, and the bolero is

. But don''t get it so tight that you can see your belly button through the dress like the model. LOL!!

I love Augusta Jones, can''t wait to see pics from that!

the carolina is just gorgeous! it''s too bad there aren''t any photos of you in the dresses so we can ooh and aah

i love number 1 and number 3!!!!!

I like 1 & 4!!!

totally unrelated question - where did you get your signature line? it sounds like something from a book or movie.

I really like #4.

#3 or #4

Oh lalalalala!

Ooh, I loved Lea-Ann Belter dresses when I was in the shopping process! You should also love Augusta Jones. They made my favorite dress, Chenoa, that I almost bought. I also think you will love Paloma Blanca (and Mikaella) and Pronovias. FWIW, I love dresses 2 and 4, but totally encourage you to keep looking. What fun is it to find the dress on the first trip out, right?!

LOL--my signature line is a lyric from a song by the band I used to play in.

Thanks for all the opinions, everyone! I definitely am going to keep looking--I figure I have a while before I have to order a dress and I am making the most of that time!

I am going to try to do better at sneaking pictures next time--it''s really hard to remember even now what they looked like on me.

um, i love

the last one!

I love 1 and 4

Definitely like 1 and 4 best based on the photos.

I''m sure they''ll look better on you though.

Can''t wait until you perfect the art of sneaking photos!
