I have a question (okay, two) about wearing gold rings that I''m hoping someone can help me out with.

Now, we all know that it''s unwise to wear a platinum e-ring and a white gold band or vice versa, due to wearing of the gold. Is it alright to wear golds of different karats next to each other? For example, a 19 kt WG ring next to an 18 kt band, or 18 kt with 14 kt, etc., etc., with all the different karat golds (19, 18, 14, 10)? I mean, theoretically the different golds differ in hardness depending on gold percentage, right? And not only that, won''t white golds of higher percentage be warmer in color than, say, 10 kt WG?

Second question. The two-tone look is "in" right now, although not for me. But I''ll ask anyways. Knowing the answer to the above question, would it be wrong to wear an 18 kt white ring with an 18 kt yellow ring? Does the 18 kt YG have a higher percentage of gold than the WG ring, and therefore the white will last longer than the yellow, or is it the same percentage?

I know that none of these options are "wrong" but I am considering buying an 18 kt WG band to go with a 19 kt WG e-ring and would like to know if anyone can foresee any problems.

Hmm, no one knows (or cares)?

Well, not sure I heard this before... as far as I can imagine, all these gold alloys are not as different among themselves as gold is from platinum. It is definitely not true that higher gold content is more durable - it just sounds more "precious", so the real problem is how to make an alloy harder without adding too mucyh of other stuff to the otherwise soft gold. The latest solution to this kind of puzzle is the 19 Kt alloy that you mention.

I would care about the finer points of metalurgy if there was some intricate carving or hand engraving at stake.
