Howdy all,

Last year some of you may remember I finally got my parti-sapphire set in a beautiful ring (thread is here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/new-parti-sapphire-ring.178620/) but I have since fallen out of love with the setting.

I love the idea of it but just not the sapphire sidestones :(sad It seems no matter how much I clean it they look dull and grimy compared to the sparkling centre stone. It's got the the point where now I find myself wearing it less and less...

Attached is a pic of the stone unset so you can see more accurately the beautiful teal blue/green it is. I'm considering resetting it into a rose-gold setting instead. Not only can I remove the grimy sidestones but I'm convinced it bring out the full potential of the centre stone.

My idea would be to use some small emerald cut "unmentionables" I already have as horizontal sidestones (see other pics as inspiration) I would probably put in a slim bezal again but I like the minimal flat sidestones that would be clear and smooth this time. This stone is hugely sentimental to me and I want to wear it again. Problem is I wear this as my ering and my wedding band is yellow gold (as it all my other jewellery) so would this look totally awful together? Should I just reset this in a different yellow gold style to match my wedding set OR set it in rose gold to make this green stone pop?

What do you all think? :wavey:

Can you make it a right hand ring? Or a 2nd ering set? If so, I would do rose gold as they color of the stone will look amazing.

I used my 2nd choice metal (yellow gold) for my ering reset, and I ended up resetting it later in platinum (my 1st choice) with a yellow gold halo. I wish I had listened to my gut the first time.

Follow your heart on this one. Try taking it to a store and trying on different settings with it.

Thanks Pregcurious - I think you are right about following my gut on this one. I tested my sapphire with some rose gold costume earrings last night and the colour is just so great together. I would just prefer to wear it as my ering, can't seem to wear RHR's (feel weird  ).

Just had even crazier idea - what about a mixed metal set? :naughty: So I would have yellow wedding band, then green sapphire set in rose gold with a white gold shank! Some idea pics below. I always did love those Cartier rolling rings in the 3 different colours...

Thoughts?

Ok found this pic at one of my favourite websites which I think shows this colour combo perfectly! :D

I would only buy gemstones that suit my skin tone, and white metal suits my skin tone. Therefore, the gemstones that I buy will always be set in white metal settings.

DK :))

I would pick colours that suit both my skin tone and gem colour. Nothing wrong at all with going 2-toned.

My ering is YG, my band is platinum... But I've found out that rose gold suits my skin tone best. So I mix and match. Or you could try 18k rose gold which has higher gold content and will be slightly peachier /yellow and less red/brassy coloured than 14k RG.

Yes! I ended up going with two tone (halo versus shank) and I love it.

My wedding band is YG, but my anniversary ring is WG. I went with a YG halo and platinum shank for my ering reset. While I almost never wear my wedding band with the other 2 rings, I sleep well knowing that I can. The few times I have done it, it was in the winter. My wedding ring fits tightly, and it stops the 2 other rings from being pulled off when I take off my gloves.

That is such a dynamite stone, HP. How about going just 2-tone? Your wedding band is yg, right? So yg shank & rg bezel. Best of both worlds. Would that do the trick?

I missed that your wedding band is YG.

YG/RG two tone may be difficult as the 2 metals are pretty close in color. Can you do a tri-tone ring with YG/RG/WG?
