My husband for his job (bartender) needs both nice looking but comfortable shoes. He typically buys relatively cheap ($60) shoes that wear out pretty quickly. He was thinking of going a step up in quality for something that will both hold up and look comfortable. Thinking of some kind of oxford (lace up shoes). Ladies, ask your men, any recs I can give him?

Well, I'm a guy so I think I can help a bit.

I don't know if he'd like these for bartending because of the potential to spill liquid on them, but I have these and they're a shoe that goes casual and dressy:

Any Cole Haan oxford would be great, because they're well made, but something like this would be great for a guy in his feet because it's a dress shoe with Nike Air. The best of both worlds.

Or these from Allen Edmonds:

In the end, it kind of depends on how much he wants to spend. For a guy looking for a step up, I think Cole Haan is the next best choice. The only rules are no square toes and they must be brown.

My husband really likes Rockports. They last him a long time and are comfortable.

Ditto the Rockports. Both DH and I wear them, and they are sturdy, comfortable and they last.

Thanks for the feedback. He's had Rockports before but again he's particularly hard on his shoes and they break down. Thanks Pennquaker for the ideas. Ended up going to Nordstrom because it seems they have alot of brands. I just let him make up his own decision, only thing I told him was to try alot of shoes on. He ended up buying two shoes, a dressy shoe by Ecco in black leather (seattle) and a pair of puma sneakers since he's in dire need of his shoes. It's an experiment. If they don't last any longer than the less expensive shoes then we'll try something else.

the only dress shoes my dad will buy are johnston and murphy shoes. they make really nice men's shoes that last a very long time :))

Pro tip: I always kind of laugh a little when one of the bartenders come to the back of the kitchen and then they slip and fall. But it's actually pretty dangerous, so I recommend some nonslip soles

HaHA! I have already seen the great thing!!!
