Some of you may know that I''ve been facing a tough decision about school. I started university in January 2005, 300 miles from home, and at first I was completely infatuated with my college, but I was soon disappointed and saw that I''d made a wrong choice. Now, after over a year, I hate it here and I wish I could just drop everything and go home.

After careful considerations, I looked into local universities to continue my biology degree and sent two applications. I got an answer from the school that has the program and academic approach that interests me the most today, and I''m accepted!! I got in!!! I can barely believe it, I''m going home!! In two months, it''ll be all over. I am soooo relieved.

Now all I have to do is find a place to stay. It''s still about an hour from my parents'' home, one and a half with traffic, so I don''t want to have to drive there and back every day, not to mention that while I do miss my parents, I appreciate living on my own. With some luck I''ll get a bachelor in the residences (keep your fingers crossed for me!!), or I might find something with my brother. J and I have agreed to give me a year to adapt to my new school situation before moving in together, and it''ll give him the time he needs to get back on his feet financially.

So... YAY!

I want to be able to practice law in that area and be close to my family. I''m being nosy..but why didn''t you consider the local schools when you first applied? Or did you just want to get away (which is perfectly understandable!)?

I did believe that getting away would help me. I love my family, but sometimes we drive each other crazy!! Being close to them but still on my own will be a good balance, I think.

However, the main reason why I left is that my current school has a marine biology concentration (as well as four other concentrations) within the biology degree, and it is supposedly is the best place in the province to study it. Originally, I wanted nothing but that, and I ended up being very disappointed as it was not what I thought it would be at all. It turns out the college community life is boring as hell too.

So, I started looking around... Last summer I got an internship with my town''s administration in the environment department, and I discovered that my interests are not only in marine biology, but in environmental sciences and biology in general. I also realized that switching concentration isn''t a big deal; it''s not like I''m switching majors or anything. Staying or not wouldn''t really affect my professional future, but since the thought of staying two more years makes me feel sick to my stomach, I applied in two local colleges for a biology degree, ecology and conservation concentration. And I got in! WOOHOO!!

The college I''ve been admitted in has a particular academic approach based on projects, research and tutorials, not only lectures. It''s an approach I''m familiar with as the CÉGEP (two freshman years in Québec) I went to is affiliated with that college and their biology program worked that way as well. That approach really worked for me (I fell in love my biology sciences in CÉGEP after all), so I''m looking forward to it!

Don''t you hate that when you psych yourself up for something and then you just end up being disappointed?
Well at least you have found your way now..........
