I had went to North Carolina to do some ruby and garnet panning at different mines in the area. Found a nice facet rough piece of garnet I left with them to be cut. Before anyone says anything the stone was transparent before it was cut and a decent size, so i'm pretty sure it wasn't a switch the stone kind of thing. I also am aware that the stone is on the dark side and does have inclusions in it (which in this stone I think gives it character). I know it is not up to your guys standards of color and clarity for garnets, but It is a very nice size being 10x14mm and I am planning on putting in a cheaper sterling silver ring setting to wear it for sentimental value, and wanted to share it with you guys :).
It does have a very nice purplish red color when in direct sunlight and light. Unfortunately my room is darker and it is a cloudy rainy day today when taking the pictures. and it hard to capture the color I see in person.

Great story. It's pretty too. Wear it with pride.

I love that you pulled it out of the earth yourself!

It is beautiful.

May i ask who you had cut it? I found some i would love to have cut that i found just outside of Ashville and i'm at a loss for who to have cut it for me. Did they clean them for you also? I think it turned out lovely.

SO cool!

Hi. I did digging and Creeking at emerald Hallow mine and they have their own lapidary serviCe that I left with them to have Cut.

I can't imagine anyone would have anything less that huge respect for mining it yourself. That's awesome! And I think the dark color of that is so pretty -- it's definitely has major purple going on. I imagine it's stunning in daylight.

Nothing beats a gem you pulled from the earth yourself! Wear it with pride, it’s lovely.

This is just so cool! How great to have a gemstone you mined yourself, love it! It's very pretty, please come back with pics after you have it set!

It is super rare and extraordinary beautiful. I envy you - in a good way - I always wanted to hunt for gems or minerals. Congratulations!

Wow. It's huge! Do you have inspiration settings we could see?

pretty stone, you could use oxidized silver for the setting, would look so goth :)

Wow! That is one huge garnet! It’s pretty! Is it a rhodolite? I went there this summer and I didn’t find anything that big. You did great!

Great story and it's a nice sized garnet! Wear it with happiness.

Yea when I brought it in the guys were excited to see a big rough piece like that.

Hi. Unfortunately being an emerald cut, which I wasn't aware it was going to be at first and so big my choices are limited in pre made settings that have some texture or detail for a 10x14 emerald cut. But luckly I found one and will have it set at the intergem show when I go in May (just so much less expensive, and will give me an excuse to go hehe :)). Here is the setting I bought.. If it were and oval though in a smaller size there would be so many more options lol.

I have a piece of quartz that I pulled out of the ground when I was 14. Still have it. Won't be beautiful to everyone, but to me, its perfect because of the memories that go along with it. that stone will (and SHOULD!) make you smile at the memories. Wear it in the best of health!

I love the setting for your garnet! :appl:

Oh that looks great! :appl:

Awesome! It’s great that you found the stone. There’s such meaning in that. Beautiful in the setting.

Do you think of having a glass of red wine every time you look at your lovely garnet? I would!

it's beautiful.. great story and it's truly yours..

Wow! Your ring is going to be gorgeous and so special! I love the setting you chose!

Do you have a "before" photo of the rough?
I would be interested to see the transformation!
Beautiful mounting.

There is something about your garnet and setting that brings to mind art deco glamour. Very beautiful.

Beautiful ring and stone! Lol I love how efficient you are with your stones and settings!
