Hello again everybody!

It's been months, I know, but I am back from this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/engagement-ring-sapphire-ruby.233271/ - and with everybody's awesome help/advice, I finally have a stone on the way! I ended up messaging Jeff White and he had some peacock sapphire rough that he cut for me resulting in:

Now it does have more green in it than what is in the picture according to Jeff, but it's sent out and on its way to me now! It's 2.16ct, 6.40 x 8.98 mm, unheated and internally flawless! He says he is extremely pleased with it so I know I sure as heck will be. If not, whelp, back to the drawing board, but I really have a feeling I will be. I'm going to try to snag a really good picture of it when it finally arrives!

So maybe I am jumping the gun a little bit here, but now I'm freaking out about ring settings. I'm not sure where to go with this, but I do know a couple of things she wants/likes:

1) Old-fashioned styles/something unique
2) She wants her wedding band to be a enhancer
3) Doesn't want it too bulky
4) Rose gold a must

Now my question: I also, due to a serious lack of self-control, also have in my possession qty 28 6x4mm aquamarines I bought during Dana's summer sale:

They're nice little gems I think! Would they look decent with that sapphire? And would that size look all right as a three-stone ring? Or how could I work them somehow into the design in a way that doesn't break the bank in gold? Would using them even be advisable? Would the colors even look okay together? Does anybody have any examples of a Montana/peacock sapphire and aquamarines in rose gold, or something similar?

I also saw a lot of tiny marquis cut blue sapphires that I could snag and use on it..

Or would it be cheaper to let the goldsmith do all of this? How much are we talking here? I'd like 18k but I'm not 100% on anything at this point.

She has shown me countless examples of what she likes and it boils down to essentially she wants something different, not the standard looking engagement ring.

Are there any really good online places that can help me to design a ring?

What a beauty. I don't have any ideas on how to incorporate the aquamarines but I bet this is going to make a knock out ring. :D
I can't wait to see your pics, once you get the sapphire.

I would not use the aquamarines in a ring, especially if it's going to be worn often.

There are a million interpretations of "different "

Please show us examples of exact settings she's shown you. And I'm sure we can find you a designer that has a similar aesthetic.

In my opinion the aquamarine don't match your sapphire and are too soft for everyday wear even if they did.

Okay so I know it's a lot of pictures, but last night she went through and showed me all the rings she saved on Pintrest over the years and these are the ones I remember. She likes some asymmetry, she likes the independent enhancer for a wedding band, and overall a more vintage look.

That being said, she also told me she would totally love it too if I just got her a solitaire or any ring, really. She's very sweet and not demanding at all with this but I want to get her something that's the best I can at the amount I can afford.

Myself, I'm really leaning toward the second ring pictured.

I should also mention maybe that she has tiny fingers: a size 4.75

What a beautiful sapphire!! Great size, faceting and color!

Unfortunately, I would forego the aquamarines for a variety of reasons:
- Not as durable for an every day wear ring
- 4x6 -- too large and will distract from the sapphire (and I personally don't feel the aqua color is complimentary with the color of your sapphire).
- The sapphire is good size for her tiny fingers and her inspiration rings all show center stones with diamond melee...I'd go that route.

Where the stone is slightly more on the tall side, I would avoid assymetric styles which would emphasize the height over the width. Just an opinion from someone who admits she has no design sense o_O

Thank you! Everybody seems to be saying to not include the aquas, and so I won't. I knew they'd be a little more fragile, but I had so many I sort of figured I could just replace them when they got bad... but I making a nice set of dangle earrings someday with them would be a much better use for them than just standby replacements!

And the size thing makes sense. I was planning on looking at them side-by-side tomorrow to make sure they matched, but with her little fingers, they'd be too much. The only thing I was thinking was to just use 2 of them to make it into a 3-stone ring, one on either side but now I'm thinking diamond melee is the way to go. Maybe my jeweler will accept some aquas in trade to lower the price and I can get an even nicer ring!

Trust be, you'll get practically nothing for the aqua in trade. Best to use them for the earrings in the future.

Womp womp. Well there goes that dream

So I got hype and forgot to take pictures but now the jeweler has it. Getting the ring made. Will definitely share pics when it is all done!

What design did you decide?

What design did you decide?

After much consideration, I decided to go with something similar to the 3-stone that is the last picture I have listed. I figured a more classic, simple and timeless design might be best, ultimately, for something she is going to wear a very long time. My local jeweler convinced me after telling me stories of how many brides-to-be come in and get those "pintrest designs" (she called them) and then end up wanting them reset in a year because their tastes change, they get tired of it, etc.

I'll just get some other stone made into one of those for her someday just as a fashion ring.

I decided just to have the jewelry store source out two matching white sapphire pears, instead of killing myself for another year trying to find two that would work! I debated for a while with trillion vs pear side stones but decided on pears in the end. Then the whole thing is set in 18k rose gold!
