This may have already been suggested (I searched the forum and didn''t see it though), but does anyone have any good book recomendations? You know-- to help fill up any pesky free time we have while we wait (thus eliminating too much wishful thinking!)

I have a few recomendations if anyone is interested:

The Lovely Bones by Alice Seabold (It''s so tense that I read it in a sitting)
Little Children by Tom Perrotta (It''s pretty cynical, but entertaining)
Fall on your Knees by Ann Marie MacDonald (It is a little on the messed up side, but the style is beautiful)
Waterloo Station by Emily Greyson (Okay, so this one is a slightly sappy romance, but it is cute!)

I recommend:
-Anything by Dan Brown (ex: The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, etc)
-The Harry Potter series (it''s not just for kids!)
-The Barry Trotter trilogy (a parody of the Harry Potter series)
-The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants trilogy (I cried)
-The Hot Zone (for a thriller that''s a true story!)

I recommend what I''m currently reading : Long way down...N. Hornby, the guy that wrote High Fidelity, About a boy, etc).....the book is written amazingly in my mind. Take an akward topic (suicide) and make an entertaining book out of it!...

I did read Lovely Bones but it always gave me nightmares!...so it took me a while to finish it because I couldn''t read it at night.

Kite Runner is also a great book!

Zorro by Isabel Allende. I know it doesn''t sound like a good book, but it''s one of the best books I''ve read in years and this is coming from a bookworm of an English teacher with 4 in-class bookshelves. It starts with his parents and how they met and continues up until the time when he takes over as Zorro full time. It''s one of those where you find yourself slowing down as you near the end.

i am in the middle of "when rabbit howls"
anyone read it?

oooh I like the Harry Potter books a good bit, and I ADORE the traveling pants books. (Although the second one made me VERY angry--that Custos...) I always suggest them to my female students (I teach 8th grade Language Arts)

Barry Totter sounds amusing!

And I will definately check out Zorro. I have to take the advice of a fellow English teacher after all!

Well, I am pretty good with the book recs. It''s kind of my specialty. Did you say 8th grade?? How do you do it? 10th grade is about as young as I can handle...

I did say 8th grade. I didn''t intend to work with that group, but I had no choice but to take the job. It worked out pretty well because I clicked with that age group. I was in a sorority for my entire college experience, so I am used to dealing with tons of drama. You pretty much need lots of energy, paitience, and lessons infused with pop culture references. Plus, the #1 big secret is to let each kid think that he/she is one of your #1 favorite kids in the whole world ever. They don''t want to dissapoint you once they figure out you really care about them. (nicknames work wonders)
