Green tourmaline or Peridot?

Hi

I am not familiar with colored stones so hopefully the CS experts here can assist. I recently acquired two stones. The tourmaline was described by the seller as "Neon Vivid Green (Sort of like Mountain Due color) With an uncommon glow" and he says it's from MOZAMBIQUE. It does glows under the low lights and in the regular lights, it's more like apple green. There is no cert on both stones.

In real life, I only see a little blue tint when it's out in the sun, when the sky is clear blue :). Majority of the time, it's bright apple green (no olive either). Do you think I received a peridot instead of tourmaline as claimed? There are some inclusions, so I don't think it's fake stone.

Here is a comparison of vendor's pics vs mine. What do you think?

Thanks!!

From the pictures I'd say tourmaline. Not peridot--very rare that peridot has a minty look to it...

I like green tourmaline and peridot darker.

I can't tell from your pictures what's what.

Sorry.

If you want vivid or neon, this isn't the stone that fits that description, presuming of course the photos are accurate. Also a stone doesn't have to be vivid or neon to be beautiful. Do you like the colour?

I don't think it's Peridot, and Tourmaline comes in SOOOO many colors, it could easily be tourmaline.

But I'm thinking it's one of the green garnets, myself.

I can't say if it's a tourmaline or peridot, but tourmalines come in a variety of colors. I'm not sure which thread I found this picture on, but it's a necklace composed only of tourmalines.

It looks more like a tourmaline than anything else.

Tourmaline. The last photo shows growth tubes. Peridot doesn't have those. It looks to be Mozambique from the small tubes I can see in the last picture, but.it's just a minty tourm, not neon. Pretty stones though.

I agree with TL that it looks very much like a Tourmaline. In the top photo it looks like there may be some chrome inclusions (ie tubes of brown/red) or have I imagined them? You can't see them in the other photos you've taken.

FrekeChild, I love your Peridot pendant, it looks great on you! Thanks!

Zzz, Thanks for that Link. I eyed on that stone before. Love that color. Thanks!

Imdanny, Thanks! I do love the look of the darker tourmalines too. :)

Klewis, my photo-taking skill is definitely lacking as the stone is more vivid than the photos. Not neon for sure but I really like the bright glow that it's showing. Thanks!

iLander, I wish that it's a green garnet. I'm getting a one next week. :) Thanks!

AustenNut, That is one colorful necklace! I remember that necklace! I did search through PS for a similar color tourmalines and most that I saw were the richer looking blue/green ones. I should have recalled this necklace as the bright greens on the right are very close to mine. Thanks!

Tourmaline_Lover, Thanks for your reassurance! It's reassuring to hear this from you.

RockHugger, Thanks! It is from Mozambique and it does have some growth tubes. Good to know that Peridot does not have such inclusions.

LovingDiamonds, The seller did mention that it's a copper bearing stone but since there is no cert, I took it with a grain of salt. Thanks!

Thank you all for your comments. Definitely felt assured now that you guys also think that it's tourmaline.

When I checked this thread again, I realized that the photos I took and put together yesterday was not a good representation of the color. After many attempts with 2 different cameras, I agree with the experts here that GREEN IS VERY HARD to capture. The Spess color came out true to real life most of the time but NOT the green.

The top left is from my point and shoot and the rest are from my SLR camera (which picks up more blue but washed out the stone color). The stone is closer to the color sample.

The bright green in the bottom right photo is what more of what I see in real life but more vivid than the photo. It does glow in most light conditions.

Anyhow, my mind is at peace now. Thanks to you guys.

Any suggestion on how I should set this? I am thinking of a pendant but no bail. It's a 6.9 x 6.9 mm stone.

Thanks!!

I'm surprised how different the P&S picture is compared to the SLR. Well, based on colouration and inclusions, it is more likely to be a tourmaline than a peridot.

It is very different. I think it's a user issue   Thanks Chrono.

Wow, according to the point and shoot camera I would have guessed 'maybe peridot' but according to the other pics I would have voted 'probably tourmaline'. I had to look close after you posted the two different looks as I first thought it was two different stones!
