Can someone please tell me if this group of feathers will affect the durability of this VS2 stone? It looks like some of them reach the surface. The jeweler will hide most of the feathers with a prong which should protect it from external blows, but I’m afraid it might break there if set too tightly.

Thanks!

You can''t tell anything about feathers breaking the surface from these photos. But I asked this question awhile back and was told that VS2 feathers are rarely a problem.

This concern is precisely why I go with higher-clarity (and smaller) diamonds.
I like peace of mind.

BTW which lab called this a VS2?

AGS?
GIA ?
EGL USA?
EGS Israel?
IGI?

Anything plotted as a feather is surface reaching. These may not all be VS2 though. Some may be VVS2/VS1. It's impossible to know without seeing the stone but I personally don't feel comfortable with feathers clustered at the girdle; particularly the two that extend through the crown and pavilion.

That''s the first time I''ve heard that. So are you saying that other feathers that are internal are not plotted at all??? That doesn''t make sense to me.

It is a GIA VS2.

Would the stone be pretty safe if the prong was covering that part of the stone?

Each diamond has to be taken as an individual, I would have thought in a VS there wouldn''t be a problem, but get a pro to check for you. This diamond might be perfectly fine and you can''t make a decision about any potential durability issues with the grading report - if you like this diamond get that expert opinion.
