Grunberger Diamonds — Not just H&A/ideal melee, they cut larger stones!

I just bought seven 0.2ct h&a ideal melee stones for a wedding band from Grunberger Diamonds and was surprised to find they also cut and sell larger diamonds. I asked them for a price sheet and figured I would provide the information to the community. Their inventory is not huge but they will also do custom cut jobs if a customer is willing to wait (Like Jann Paul but based in USA).

Price seems pretty compelling since they mostly sell to jewelers and would not come with upgrade policy/etc and they do not have the technology in place to view stones on the website. They only started doing larger diamond cuts in the last 1-2 years.

Their price sheet for F/G VS1 and VS2 options (all I asked for) with hearts & arrows (ie: precision cut) is below to give you a sense.

Note: Their larger stones are not like the melee and not all of these have a 34-35 crown angle so you would need to communicate with them about what you are looking for specifically (ie: FIC, BIC, etc).

Very interesting! Thanks for the info!

Figured it is worth it to someone looking to do a bit more legwork to get a deal by going closer to wholesale prices.

They also told me "These are our stock list on hand but our Belgium and Japan office has more stones but they are updating inventory so I do not have that on me at the moment. The prices would be in the same range but we would surely have more stones that are closer to the 35 crown angle if need be."

David Klass received the seven 0.2ct melee I ordered from Grunberger. He sent me a short video of the diamonds prior to setting them in ring — see below for video:

Here is the CAD from DK with the exact diamond measurements (Prongs will not go that high above diamonds in real design of course):

The diamonds look gorgeous as does the ring design! Can’t wait to see the finished ring. What did David Klass think about the diamonds?

Yeah the anticipation to see the real thing is always fun and to be savored (chuckle).

My wife and I purposedly asked him to have the prongs come in a tad closer together to enhance the feeling of roundness in the diamonds (and create a little more spacing between the stones).

David only told me the following when the diamonds arrived "Your seven beautiful round brilliant diamonds (1.40cts) arrived safely. "

I didn't ask him anything else because I already felt bad asking for a video of the diamonds before he set them (chuckle).

This is a replacement for a IDJ wedding band that was lost with 0.16ct stones. I sent these pictures to David to base everything from. Can't wait to do a before and after picture comparison. I imagine the prongs will look a lot better this time around (see below): We are doing round prongs now — old ones looked square and spacing was not uniform…

Thanks for the helpful info @NY_Resonant !

Out of interest, did you see your melee (and other Grunberger stones) in person before buying?

If you don’t mind sharing, how did you go about contacting them / getting a quote - I see on the website that they have an enquiry form and it asks what company you’re from.

H&A melee opens up a lot of design possibilities!

Hi Pomelo,

I once saw Grunberger melee more than a year ago in a friend's ring but most of my research on it was online. Wink for example spoke very highly of their melee in Pricescope posts.

I put in a quote request on the website and someone called me the next day (I left company field blank or wrote None if asked).

The gentleman that I coordinated with at the company was:

Just for size reference, what size diamond is her solitaire? Beautiful combo!

Those pictures had 0.16ct stones (3.4mm approx) in the wedding band paired with a 7.48mm solitaire. We couldn’t go bigger on the wedding band without overwhelming the solitaire.

The new combo will be 0.20 stones (3.7mm) paired with a 8.51mm solitaire.

Ooh, so she got a new solitaire too? Fabulous!

The old wedding band and engagement ring were both lost (sigh). Wife was very upset since she was attached to the original ER.

Thankfully the ER was insured and BriteCo did a great job making the process easy for me. So we were forced into this process and I figured we might as well do some upgrades (chuckle)...Just wish the original wedding band had also been insured!

Well, sorry for the loss - I am sure that is heartbreaking - but yay for the new rings! Hope they bring her years of happiness!
