So as some of you may know I’ve just started to wear my Tiffany soleste aquamarine halo, which I’ve had for over 11 years. Never wore it before because it never felt natural on me. But here I am a wearing it. And as it got dirty I decided to put it into the ultrasonic to get it properly clean. And after the ultrasonic guess what I noticed. See below. I know. I’m not supposed to put pave in the ultrasonic. So that’s on me. But I promise it’s the first time I have ever put this ring in the ultrasonic.

And, though you probably can’t see it, that tiny little sucker is chipped too.

Anyway, I’ve put my CANERA pave band and my VCA pave studs into the ultrasonic lots of times. No issues. So I thought I could chance it with Tiffany. Well…I guess not! I sure learned my lesson. And that is to buy pave from Victor and VCA. Yup…

I’ll see what Tiffany says. I’ll probably need to pay for repair. And if not egregious I’ll just do it. Oh well. And yeah. I won’t put this ring in the ultrasonic again. But there are levels to pave. Clearly.

Oof. I see the chip, so sorry this happened. But we’ve always said here that if you’re going to lose pave hope that you lose it in the ultrasonic. Better than it falling out randomly.

Hopefully the repair won’t be too much hassle.

It’s actually kinda hilarious. I would never have thought this could happen, but it totally did! I’m looking forward to seeing what Tiffany says.

Could the diamond have been chipped before the ultrasonic bath? Then the bath just shook it out? I understand about not using the ultrasonic with pave but still.... one time? I too will be interested to hear what Tiffany has to say!

Oh no! I’m so sorry. Let us know what they say. :(

That sucks! I have a pavé band ring and never had an issue and I always use ultrasonic- I hope you can get the problem resolved. It’s a beautiful piece.

Wow, and that is not a tiny chip!

Oh wow, that is disappointing. I’m wondering the same as MissGotRocks…do you think maybe the diamond was already chipped and the ultrasonic bumped it out?

I hope you can get it replaced without spending too much.

Without thinking too much I would put money on it getting chipped in the ultrasonic since I’ve probably worn it less than five times in 11 years (not counting recent weeks where I’ve worn it probably like 10 times). Of course that’s no guarantee but just thinking about probabilities. Or maybe the diamond had a chip when it was put in there and the ultrasonic did it no favors. Who knows? I am just super impressed with myself for finding it.

And this is why people say don’t put pave in the ultrasonic. If I never had a Tiffany pave piece and just put my CANERA and VCA pieces into the ultrasonic I would think, the ultrasonic should be fine cause it has been for both of these makers for multiple pieces. I put my pave sweet studs, vintage studs, ribbon ring, single row bangle and all my CANERA pave pieces into the ultrasonic and no issues. But I know going forward I will do that less. Kinda an interesting experiment to see what Tiffany will say. Going today so will keep you guys updated.

Oh, no! So sorry this happened. I lost a stone off my heirloom cluster ring (Emma) in the ultrasonic. I was fortunate enough to find it, and I’m glad you found yours (though chipped, dang!).

Victor told me it was ok to put his pave band in the ultrasonic, so like you, I do it all the time with my single cut VC band.

Lavish makes a great click pen that’s a super fast cleaning tool. Idk about the solution itself for an aqua, but if it’s safe for it, you might check it out.

Of course he would know, and he’s right! Good old Victor. Won’t set my stone but can’t say his stuff isn’t beautiful and STURDY. gotta hand it to him.

HI:

What the heck o-rama! Sorry for your trouble--I hope Tiffany makes it right!

cheers--Sharon

Oof sorry to see this! I have a couple of Tiffany pave bands / rings (no halos though) and haven’t had an issue in the ultrasonic, but I don’t ultrasonic my jewellery very often (like once every 2-3 months).

My Metro pave and does have a diamond that I assume is chipped though (worse light performance than the others!), so will be mindful of putting it in the ultrasonic in future.

@LLJsmom - since you will go ahead and have Tiffany replace your melee on your ring, can you also specify for them to check that all the prongs are tighten on each of the melees? And if they do find something which needs to be replaced can they do it at the same time so you don’t have to send in the ring again? I would hope this inspection will be included, but be sure you specify that want this done.

Thank you Crazie. I did ask that they check all the prongs, but did not ask them to replace if another is found chipped. I’ll text the SA. thanks for the smart suggestion.

I don’t think this is anything about Tiffany not being a good product. Any piece can lose a stone in an ultrasound. It happens all the time. Additionally, the ultrasonic would not create the chip. And I’m sure the ring was in perfect condition when sold. Hence, it happened while wearing. We bump our rings all the time, sometimes unknowingly. It’s very common. Fortunately it’s not the end of the world to get changed out. Tiffany’s repair rates are going to be a little higher than others but that’s to be expected. You should only have Tiffany work on Tiffany pieces. Absolutely stunning ring and you should wear it all the time!

I've never trusted tiffany's...

I always clean my pavé in the ultrasonic washer, newer had issues.

That's what I was thinking.

Same thing happened to my Elsa Peretti band. Got it fixed then totally forgot about what happened and put them in the ultrasonic again for the second time! Duh! Never again.
