Hey Gwendolyn! Just noticed you being around again, how is everything? Do I recall you moved to be with your man across the pond? Hope you are enjoying it!

Oh my GOODNESS, it has been an insane term. I came over to the UK in mid-September--my boyfriend lives in northern England, so I spent a week and a half with him, and then he drove me down to grad school (University of Cambridge) and then term started and it''s been kicking my patoot ever since. Term just ended TODAY so I am absolutely and completely THRILLED to have my life back for a bit!!! I just posted in another thread about the paper that''s been consuming my life for the past month, a 6000-word literature review, and over winter break I have to start thinking on the exact process I want to go through to do my master''s thesis this spring--but not yet! I need some time to breathe first! I''ve been going bonkers!!

I''m flying back to the US on Tuesday for 2 weeks to see my family and friends, and then will be back here in the UK on the 19th to spend Christmas and New Year''s with my boyfriend. His parents have decided to give us a short holiday in Rome as our Christmas present, so we''ll be spending a few days in Rome in mid-January before my 2nd term starts up!

So, all in all, good stuff is going on! This past month has been really difficult, though, I can''t lie. I think I cried every single day at least once, except for 3 or 4 days. It was a really hard month. But it''s good now!!!

Aye, it's been very stressful, but I was kind of an idiot to think it'd be otherwise. I am SO excited to go home and see the fam and friends for a while before coming back to spend the holidays with my boyfriend. We've technically been together just over 3 years now, and this will be our first Christmas together, so it's pretty exciting.

What, the 21st of December?!?! That's WAY too close to Christmas! When do you have to go back? I hope you get a lot of time off after the new year if you end so late, m'dear!

Thank you, my dear! I hope you have a fantastic holiday as well (and all you other lovely ladies too!). What's everyone else got planned for the holidays this year? I'm so excited that Christmas decorations are starting to go up everywhere--I just love Christmas lights.

Oh, and so you don't think I was expecting anything even remotely like it, I just wanted to say that I am SO overwhelmed by the present to Rome too! J started out by just asking for a bit of money to contribute to a trip to Europe for us (because I've never been and it's just next door now which is so wickedly cool!), and then it turned into this whole trip with airfare and hotel and it's just so incredibly generous, I can't believe it!

Thanks so much, Skippy! You are exactly right, all the hard work will eventually pay off--I think I should make some time in my schedule next term to come back to visit PS so I can have a healthy dose of your sunshiny optimism! You and the other PSers are good for the soul, I tell ya.

I''m at Homerton--not one of the famous ones, but it''s nice enough. People (well, students) are friendly and the building I''m living in is only a year old, and I just have a 3-minute walk to the faculty of education building, so it''s very convenient. It''s way far out of the centre of town, though, way down south: http://www.homerton.cam.ac.uk/

The weather has been pretty nasty lately, I agree! Windy and pretty cold and rainy. Yesterday was my first day home for my 2-week break here in Maryland, and it snowed! It''s so beautiful! I''m glad I got to enjoy some snow this winter--I know it''s fairly rare in the UK.

We''re not back to college until the 21st of January-so we have a full month off thankfully. So looking forward to it now. Just cannot wait to not have to study! Enjoy going home!
