Anyone have advice on where to get hair pins? I want to bring some to my stylist for my hair trial.
Also, any idea how many to buy? I have long hair (about mid-back) and our thought is a half-up, half-down sort of look so I thought a few hair pins would be cute somewhere around the half-up part.

Do you think the pins would be too much?

this thread may be of help.

and this one, too.

Is your hair curly or straight? If it is curly you might need a couple more pins to help "tame" it...

Jcrow, thanks for the links!

Poptart, my hair is straight but the down part will be curled. However, the hair pins are for decoration only. They would never keep my hair in place, it''s way too thick! I''ll have plenty of non-decorative pins for that.

Maybe pins like these?

ETA: pic is a bit large, sorry!

Sounds like you and I have the same type of hair. Dark and thick!! I really wanted fancy pretty hair pins for my wedding hairstyle but I didn''t know what kind would end up looking best for the hairstyle I don''t even know I''ll have just yet. Buying many "real" pins/barrettes/combs etc can get pricey quick!

So, I went to Claires and bought many different kinds (from thier "bridal/prom" section) that would work for many different kinds of styles, went to my hair trial, and sort of handed them over. I asked her to see which would look best given what we had done (a half up half down) and she picked one and put them in my hair.

They looked surprisingly pretty and very sparkly for fakies, I must say. I liked them so much, I''m keeping them and returning the others. I tested them indoors and out and they sparkled just enough so I''m happy. It doesn''t hurt that they are similar to the ones posted above in that they are dainty circular looking ones so it''s not like they need real diamonds to sparkle. Oh and it also never hurts that where I was planning about $50 for hair accessories, I only ended up spending $6!

Just an option

So Happy, we definitely think alike! It really is too bad we''re not in the same state!

I wanted to buy a bunch and give to my stylist too to let her figure out what to do w/them. And of course, spend a limited amount of $. I love the idea to go to Claire''s and there''s one not far from me at all.
How many did she decide to put in your hair?
Thanks a lot!!

Yay!! I''m glad I can help YOU for a change :)

Well, as you''ll see when you go (as I''m sure thier stock is very similar), they have pins similar to what you posted above but I do think they are in a flower-like shape. Not HUGELY flower-y but slightly. They come with........oh let me go check..........okay, back..........they come 6 pins to a pack. You could always buy 2 packs but 6 should be enough IMO.

When she placed them it, it looked REALLY pretty! I was very happy. The best part is you can literally buy all kinds of them (I think I ended up buying $50 worth.........which is ALOT at claires lol) but returned all but these.

I am so surprised I liked them. These will literally go down as the cheapest wedding accessory (sp?) I''ve purchased that I''ve actually REALLY liked.........next would be my $20 payless wedding shoes
