Halo setting question

Hi PSers, I need another advice... you guys are the only one I can ask for an advice..
In my previous thread I wanted to get a 9.20mm diameter MRB but for now I need to get 2.6ct with 8.80mm to get higher color. But I know that I will upgrade it to 3ct in the future. Trying a 9.20mm doesn’t give me finger coverage that I want, so I want a Halo setting instead of Solitaire.
My question is, if I made a custom Hallo setting with a 8.80mm center stone, can I use the same setting later if my center stone is about 9.30mm? I don’t want to make 2 custom settings, that would cost too much, is my option only get a cheapest setting possible now and make a custom setting for the final ring? Or can I make a Hallo setting now and use it again later for the final stone? Thank you!!!

I believe you would need a new setting. I’d make it a solitaire until you get where you are going and then do the halo.

Some stock settings can fit a range. I had a few that accommodated my 8.32 and then my 8.67 rounds. But they do sit differently

Most halo settings can only accommodate about .1 or .2mm in either direction. 8.8 to 9.3 would almost certainly require a new setting.

I would personally set the 8.8 in a temp solitaire setting while you save up for the upgrade.

I like the whole attention to the main setting and it surrounded by blings, if I do 3 stones it’ll still be halo with pear side stones but its highly unlikely because it’ll cost too much. I really love VC Emilya Halo solitaire with donut but some PSers contacted VC lately and get replied with something like “you don’t go buy BMW and service it in Mercedes”. So I want to contact DKJ but I’m wondering if I can make the setting roughly for 9.30mm or I need to get the stone first for it to fit perfectly.
Oh and the reason I’m sticking with WF and not VC is because WF have better upgrade policy, it won’t cost me anything to get the smaller stone while waiting for the bigger one. With VC I’ll get charged for the new certificate each upgrade and also WF have more inventory, while VC have less, and the cut by order diamond in VC doesn’t have same upgrade policy.

I think you need the stone first. As far as VC, I would call and speak to Victor, himself. I’m having a ring made by him now and he is the kindest person in the world. He has helped me so much in the past 2 weeks and I contact him constantly. However, a few months ago, I sent an email inquiry about a necklace and I received a bit of a snarky response. I told Victor about this at our meeting and he is working on some staff issues. Victor even looked up the email (I guess they are all saved somehow). If you like a VC setting, go to the man himself. I understand if you don’t want to work with a particular vendor, but don’t let a staff person give you a bad impression. Just my 2 cents.

No no.. Its not that I don’t want to work with him, I really want to have Emilya Halo setting when the time comes. Its just I’m afraid to contact them and afraid of the rejection lol and as for the main stone, Upgrade policy its there for a reason I don’t think an exception is fair and if they have other upgrade policy it should be stated clearly in their website for the fairness of their customers.

Sorry, this is probably a really silly question, but I''ve seen the term used, and I even have a ring that was described as having an airline, and I don''t know what it refers to!

Temp = temporary

What I mean is to ask the designer if it is possible to have a setting that has a temp airline setting with a smaller stone, but fitting a larger stone without airline setting using the same ring setting.

If you are spending the money for a custom setting from a high quality jeweler you want it to be made specifically for the measurements of the stone it is intended for. I would wait.

If you would decide on a custom halo ring now, you could have a sapphire or other coloured stone in it when you buy your bigger stone.

As for Victor: he is the kindest person ever (I had 4 settings made by him). He will not reject you. Once you have your stone, you can just contact him for a setting.
