I'd posted a few weeks ago about wanting to get rid of my halo and get another type of setting, or possibly back to the original solitaire I'd had prior to the halo. Thank you so much to everyone who responded, helped and had different opinions. They all helped because I was stuck, indecisive, nervous about wasting more money, etc.

I ended up with a solitaire and diamonds on the shank. It was my previous diamond that DH upgraded for me almost 9 years ago. I love the stone so much and for sentimental reasons can never part with it. I still find it the perfect size, and the sparkles and light it gives out are amazing. I thought I'd have issues with finger coverage after getting rid of my big halo, but it's been the exact opposite. I have plenty of finger coverage and found out that's not really what I was after - I need sparkle and icy whiteness!

I then had issues with finding a great band to pair with the new setting. I settled on the third band I tried. It's a little bigger than my ring's width, but in person it looks very seamless and cohesive (the pics brought out a ton of detail)! It's a lower profile band that matches my ring's height perfectly and doesn't deter from the diamond, it also allows you to see the pretty basket. Yet still gives off a lot of bling.

I don't have a detailed appraisal for either, just the basic appraisal I received from the jewelers. I'd like a more in depth appraisal for both eventually. Here are the specs as I know them:

Diamond
0.96 ct
G SI1
Round brilliant

Diamond band setting
0.56 ct
G-H SI1 - SI2
Round brilliant
Ring size 6.5 (a little big, don't like a tight ring)

Wedding band
1 ct
H-I SI1
Round brilliant
Ring size 6.5

I just wanted to thank everyone again who helped me and joined in my excitement. And I was so excited! This is my dream setting. I'd had my halo for a year, but knew within a month or so that it wasn't quite for me. At least that type of halo (I like a much more delicate halo). But I'm glad I tried it, and finally know what's right for me. I'll attach a pic of it at the end. I also took new pictures of my ring and this is the only place I can really share them without anyone really getting tired of them, ha ha. I've taken so many....I think I have a problem!

My old halo.

Another of the old halo.

And I have to say the halo looks better in these pics than it did in real life. It was sparkly but nearly as much as the new set. My diamond was also somewhat dull looking in the setting, I'd forgotten what it looked like. I think if I'd gotten a more seamless and smaller halo it would've been just right for me.

Ok, a couple more. It's a sickness.

Your set is absolutely gorgeous and knockout...icy white, sparkly and gorgeous with your black polish and red polish. The new setting is an absolute winner. Stunning! :appl:

I personally love halos buy felt your halo overpowered your centre stone. You reset into a solitaire is breathtaking and makes the stone come alive! Congrats and well done!!

The upgrade is beautiful and the setting is very classic.

Thank you all! Redroze, the new rings make me want to keep up my manicures way more than before, ha ha!

laurenk, that's what I thought. Initially when I chose that halo, I rememeber it being because of the size. Why choose a small halo when you can choose big? The sales lady and a couple of other customers said the same thing, lol. But in the end, not for me. I've seen a few halos I love. Very delicate and they still allow the center stone to shine. I tried them on this time around but ultimately went with the plain diamond. I can see a halo for my right hand though. :-)

I like the new setting better, your old halo needed smaller melee with less gaps to work. Your new setting makes the centre stone stand out more, it's very pretty so congrats.

Lizzy, the new set is beautiful! I don't think you lost a lot of finger coverage and honestly your diamond "pops" more in the new setting. I agree that the halo melee were just not as delicate on the old set which is probably what bothered you as you mentioned.
I'm so happy that you found a new set that feels perfect for you! I love the new look! Congrats!

From one covert to another! It's fabulous!

Love your new set. It is beautiful. :appl:

Yes, I think the melee around the diamond bothered me the most. It took me a long time to figure that out, but when I started looking at inspiration photos and saw more delicate halos, I probably should have picked the smaller ones in the first place. It's just what I'm drawn to. I like a more delicate looking ring overall. And some of these pictures make the set look big (to me) but it's a little smaller in real life. You can notice the set though a mile away!

I did try on a couple of halos this time around that were definite contenders. Extremely small melee. In the end, I was just mesmerized by my plain diamond and just wanted that (in addition to a little extra bling on the band of course). And thank you all for your input! I'm so happy you like the new set.

More photos, sorry! I'm just still mesmerized by the whiteness. These diamonds are a bit better quality ln the band, so still getting used to that. i wish I could take better pics!

Oh and I decided on a four prong setting this time vs. six (in my old solitaire setting). It takes on a squarish rounded look and I love it!! My very first engagement ring was a .33 ct princess setting and to this day I love princess and rounds equally. This seems to give me the best of both.

It's so sparkly and gorgeous. I love the set on your hand! I think you have a really great balance of bling that isn't over the top.

So happy for you! Enjoy your beautiful e-ring and wedding band!! :appl:

It's perfect  It suits you much better than the halo too - it looks fantastic!

Glad you are so happy with them. Enjoy!

It's very pretty and sparkly and I too much prefer it over the halo ring! So happy that you were able to find what really makes your heart sing - enjoy!!

I much prefer your solitaire reset as well Lizzy. It is elegant and classic and still very blingy and timeless. Beautiful.

Great reset! It looks bright and blingy!!!

The set looks classy and blingy on your pretty hands!! Great decisions:)

Your reset is classy & elegant. Your other setting was very pretty, but this is just more my taste - although it only matters what YOU like!

Gorgeous reset Lizzy!! It looks very elegant and very blingy! :appl:

I love it!

I really love your reset. Great choice.
Your set is really stunning! I love that the band is a perfect march without being matchy matchy.

Love it!

Thank you all for the compliments and comments! I just wish I had more free time to sit around and just look at my rings, ha ha. I keep getting interrupted by life. :-). I'm also a little obsessed with keeping the new rings cleaned. I have a cleaner with a small brush they gave me, but I like when use their ultrasonic machine. I need one of those!
