I receive my fiance hammered finish 14k gold ring today from e-weddingbands.com
and I''m a tad bit disappointed with the finish. The whole thing is really polished looking and looks totally different from the picture on the site. I was under the impression that the ring was high polished on the step edges and more brushed hammered looking in the middle. I was told that would be more on the lines of titanium, since you cannot do a brushed finish on top of the hammered finish?... Is this true?

14k white gold hammered finish with step edge. I''ve just seen this finish more of a brushed duller look and they are telling me that they can''t do both??...

Here is the ring for comparison...

Unfortunately in the picture posted by blueyes, it looks like the step edge and the hammered middle have a similar degree of shininess. The picture isn''t very high resolution, so if you based your decision on that picture, I would say some creative mental retouching was involved to support what you wanted.

But on the e-weddingbands website, they do have a palladium band that they describe as "handsome 7mm palladium wedding band features a brushed hammer finish center section bordered by recessed milgrain and bright edges" so I can see how you might have thought that a brushed hammered center with shiny step edges was possible. And that picture does seem to support the text.

Its not clear from your post what exactly eweddingbands told you. Is the ring you got supposed to have a similar finish to the palladium one? If so, send it back and have them try again! But it sounds like they are telling you your ring is different and they can''t do it with the hammered brushed look. If so, you may have to return it and shop elsewhere.

For what it''s worth, I think the ring as is is lovely. It woln''t stay perfectly shiny with wear, so maybe with time it will be closer to the duller look you wanted.

Sorry, the quality of that pic wasn''t the greatest. This one is better and gives you more of a feel of the finish on the ring from the site!

blueeyes--that is the ring my husband has (from the same vendor). indeed, it is shiny...but it does get a more weathered patina after a year or two.

They said that they can''t do both (the brushed and the hammered finish together). It''s just not possible. I am thinking about returning it, but I would like to look at other ones at B&M stores.

Does your husband wear it all the time?
Mine will only being wearing it on special occasions and weekends. He works with his hands way too much and doesn''t want to wear it to work.

Mustang fan,

My fiance chose a ring we tried on at a local jewelry store that looks very much like the one cara posted...
It was definately shiny on the outside and not on the hammered part.
My advice is that if you don''t like the one you have now, return it because I am sure you can find one elsewhere without the hammered section being shiny!

Good luck!

yes, he does wear it all the time. i agree, if you are not happy with it, return it. DH''s brother makes fun of him all the time for picking such a shiny ring, but is is totally his style. if you are looking for something less shiny you can definitely find it!

thanks for you feedback!

I got a return authorization and we will look else where.
Now I just want to buy something in person, it''s so hard to buy something online. E-weddingbands should also put better quality pictures on their site.
