Hello everyone!!!

What are your thoughts on printing the addresses on the envelopes for wedding invitations? All the etiquette "experts" say ''No Way!'' that they have to be handwritten, but I just feel that is unnecessary when a computer printer could print them beautifully. I''m not worried about my handwriting ''cause I actually have anally neat handwriting. I just think they actually look nicer printed.

Let me know what you think!!!

i would prefer hand-written, cause i am traditional like that

. however like they say, do what you want. i have probably received more computer generated addresses for formal events than hand-written ones.

i am not a fan of etiquette

so, i was planning on printing our envelopes.

but then my FMIL, who has wonderful handwriting -- the product of years of catholic schooling -- offered to address them.

they turned out great

I have seen machine printed envelopes that mimic calligraphy and look great...it is called inscribe and it is much less money than hand calligaphy and there are many different fonts...

I think its fine to print them, as long as you don''t print them onto labels and then put the labels on the envelope.

We would have printed the addresses but printing on envelopes turned out to be a huge pain in the ass, so I handwrote them all. They looked really nice using plain penmanship with a skinny caligraphy marker and a ruler. But very time consuming...kind of like most aspects of wedding planning!

Are there vendors who will print each guest''s address on the envelope?

I think you should do what you''re most comfortable with!! I''ve gotten both printed and handwritten. Beautiful handwritten calligraphy is always impressive, for me, but I don''t think anything less of printed invites either!!

I''m a total stickler for etiquette but we did "digital calligraphy"--printed them on the computer. It looked amazing! The font matched the one on our invitations and it looked better than handwritten calligraphy if you ask me! But if you do go this route, make sure your envelopes are compatible with laser printers. We had a smudging issue and had to buy a special spray from an art supply store to make the ink "stick" to the envelopes.

I had the lady who designed my invites print up envelopes. Our address was down in thermography on the back and she just computer calligraphered the address on the front in the same font as the invites. It was GREAT! So when my invites arrived all I had to do was put stamps on them!

Because I didn''t have extra envelopes I didn''t want to screw around with printing directly on them. Contrary to the above I printed addresses on matte, clear labels and affixed them to the envelopes.

I agree with lovelylulu... not a fan of etiquette either. Well, mainly the incredibly outdated etiquette that some people still cling to. If you are having 30 people at your wedding and you studied calligraphy for years, then yeah, go ahead. Seriously, handwriting isn''t taught anymore, no one writes letters, my guests will be lucky that they didn''t just get an evite!! But if the guests actually want them DELIVERED, it will have to be printed, since my handwriting is so bad. And I doubt my fragile hands can take wrtiing that much... I''m so used to typing EVERYTHING that I probably write like 1 post-it a week. It''s better that way, really. My handwriting is atrocious!!

And I am also with FireGoddess... nothing wrong with printing on labels so long as they are the clear, matte kind. You have to do a double take to even realize they are there if you rub them once or twice.

Thanks everyone! My thought all along was to print them but then once I actually got the invites I got scared to do the wrong thing since I can only do it once! I think I am going to print them with Zapfino font that I used on my invites. It is a really pretty calligraphy font. Thanks!!! :)
