I called my mother this morning to say, "Christos Voskrese!" in case no one else had already done so. She said, "Christos Voskrese? Voistinu Voskrese!".

These mean, "Christ has risen" and, "Indeed, He has risen!" in Slovak.

It is Easter for many Christians today, those celebrating according to the eastern rite. My mother is no longer a practicing Catholic (given that she and my father have become Quakers), but last week she had announced she wasn't going to say, "Christos Voskrese!" to anyone that day. So I felt her old Easter still had a place in her heart and that someone should greet her the way that her family always did on this day. (It turned out my aunt, her sister, had spent the night there last night and they had already greeted each other with this traditional greeting today.)

Happy Easter to anyone who is celebrating today!

Thanks so much for reminding me. One of my closest friends is Russian Orthodox, and I just sent him Easter wishes.

Just heard back from my friend - "Voisteno voskrese," "truly he is risen" in Russian. Thanks again for the reminder.
