Hi - I didn''t want to threadjack, but I just was in Maui for 2 weeks and stayed next door to the hotel you''re asking about. I also took a timeshare tour there, and hung out at the pool. We also ate quite a bit in Lahaina. I''m no expert, but was just there 9/10-9/20 so let me know if there''s any way I can help out...I can imagine planning it remotely is a challenge!

Hi piccola!

Thank you! You are so sweet! I''m not sure I know what to ask, but here goes!

How did the hotel look on the inside? How were the grounds? TGal mentioned things looked pretty dated all around , but I kind of expected that.

Also, the restaurant we are trying to work with in Lahaina is Hecock''s. They offer a huge banquet dinner for $37 a head that includes EVERYTHING, including wine! They came very highly recommended from some friends of ours, but they really have no business acumen (sp?)

Our wedding coordinator is going to look into a reception at the hotel, but I''m just not sure they can beat the price of Hecock''s, but I really like the idea of not having to travel anywhere for the wedding or the rehearsal. We still don''t know if we''ll be able to stay at the Beach Club, but hopeully we''ll be a ble to meet up with the travel agent this weekend.

Anything else you noticed while there? I would love to hear about it, as well as any "must-do" kind of things I could include in info for our guests on our website and the welcome bags when we get there. I want to make sure I give plenty of info and ideas for things to do for them.

Thanks again for thinking of me!

The pink paint on the outside is odd, but when we were inside, it seemed like many of the other condo resorts and basically nice (a 6-7ish/10). The rooms they showed us were the demo rooms, so I''m not sure if all the rooms have been recently renovated like those, but they were very nice condos with granite counter tops, new appliances and bedding, etc. The pool area is nice, but not as over the top as the more swank hotels near black rock. I didn''t end up eating at the hotel restaurants since there were so many other choices nearby that were highly (or at all) recommended. I think that with the configuration of the buildings, some rooms have mountain views which are nice, but likely not the ocean views they promote with the photos on their website. All in all, I personally would book a hotel room there when we return to Maui depending on what else is available at the price point

Sadly, I didn''t hear anything about Hecocks while in Maui, but what a fabulous price for a pricey island!

I''d take their opinion more highly than mine...but it''s pretty easy to get around Kaanapali/Lahaina area, assuming that your guests have rental cars. Personally I preferred having my wedding/reception all in one spot (not in Maui), but that price certainly makes you think that the convenience has its price!

other observations:
LOVED Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina (cheap and yummy food and happy hours), Hula Grill/Barefoot Bar in Kaanapali (for great ambiance at sunset) and Roy''s in Kahana (much nicer/pricier but well worth it)
SO SO on Pacific''Os, which everyone raved about. It was good, but not as earth shattering as everyone said
Loved going down Mt Haleakala on the bikes (didn''t do it at sunrise though, which I don''t really regret, but if you want to do that, do it one of your first few days there before you absorb the time change

)
We took a van ride to Hana, which decreased the flexibility we had on stopping wherever we wanted on the drive (GORGEOUS from start to finish), but likely saved our sanity since neither of us had to drive (it certainly is a doozy)
Book your helicopter ride early just in case it gets bad-weathered out...that should give you time to reschedule it (we booked it for the 2nd to last day and couldn''t reschedule it, which was a bummer)
Loved Napili Bay/Beach, also Big Beach south of Waialea for great sandy beaches
Buy your Kona coffee at Costco near the Kahalui airport - its nearly half price anywhere else on the island for 100% kona coffee, not the 10% you get elsewhere

I hope that helps, but I know I just skimmed. Please let me know if you have more questions I might be able to help with!

Nice review piccolascimmia. Just one thing to note, although I don''t know if it is still in effect..the biking trips going down Haleakala were suspended shortly after your trip. Another person died and it is being reevaluated for safety. Someone lost control and was hit by a van, I believe.

It sounded fun at first, but I opted not to do it because I was pregnant (I was looking into it before I found out I was) and many consider it pretty unsafe. Lots of message boards have pretty heated debates over it. Either you''ve done it, lived and loved it, or just really think it''s a bad bad idea.

Oh, TGal, that''s terrible. I had heard the same...that it potentially was quite dangerous but I decided I was fine with it. There were several points in my ride when I got a little "whoo, that was fun/scary", but never felt like it was reckless enough for me not to do it again. But the girl ahead of me kept saying "lets go faster" and kept erratically speeding up/slowing down which made it tough on me (and likely the person behind me).

Oh, that''s just sad. In any case Harleigh, definitely go to Haleakala, as it is a beautiful promontory to see so much of the island...

Thanks piccola! You really gave a lot of info, so thank you for taking the time!

I got to speak with our travel agent briefly on the phone tonight and we will actually be meeting up with him tomorrow evening. He is looking into the Kaanapali Beach Club for us and also mentioned the Kaanapali Beach Shores nearby. I still think I want to try to stay where we''re getting married, if only to have a place to get ready on the day of the wedding! He didn''t seem to think one way or another about it, but had dealt with several of the ResortQuest places recently.

Where did you stay that was right next door to the Kaanapali Beach Club? I''m curious to know what''s right nearby to suggest to the travel agent to try to make available for our guests.

He also let me know that a cruise around the islands probably won''t be feasible as FI hates the big cruises. He wanted to go on a smaller boat cruise, but there are none available around that time, so he suggested either island-hopping or taking a small boat cruise to the Mediterranean or the Galapagos Islands. I don''t really care where we go, I just want to have a nice, WARM honeymoon! (For those of you who don''t remember, I HATE to be cold!!!)

Thanks for the great ideas and for your input as well, TGal!

I might be getting confused...I stayed at the Mahana. Which hotel are you looking at again? I cant get it straight

Uh-oh! We are getting married in Lahaina at the Ka''anapali Beach Club Resort in their gardens. Ka''anapali Shores ResortQuest is supposed to be right next door. No biggie if you are on the wrong one!

I''M SORRY! I saw the pink description and latched onto it being the one next to our condo, but its not!

But we did walk through the gardens at Ka''anapali Beach Club Resort before dinner one night and the gardens are gorgeous and fairly spacious. We didn''t go into the Ka''anapali Shores ResortQuest at all.

It will be fabulous where ever you pick...you''d have to be a total grump not to enjoy Maui''s beauty! Good luck!

Thanks, piccola!

We met with the travel agent last night, and he said that the Ka''anapali Beach Club is not contracted with who he works with and couldn''t recommend it to us. He did say something about Ka''anapali Shores and the ResortQuest Mahana or something like that.

My concern is how close these hotels are together? If we stay at the Ka''anapali Shores, is it within walking distance of the Gardens? He says there is a pathway between all of the hotels lumped together, but I am now at a loss. The whole point of us trying to stay there was so that my girls and I would have a place to get ready AND not have very far to go to get to the ceremony.

I''m still not feeling well, so that may be the cause of my irritation with the whole thing, but why on earth does this have to be so difficult??? Arghhh!

Thanks again for all your help!
