Has anyone got 14k or 18k yellow or rose gold from DK to show me the difference?

I’m wondering if I should go for rose or 14k yellow gold for my new engagement ring that DK is currently designing.

I was going to go for 18k yellow. However I already have an 18k yellow gold ring from DK and it is really yellow which I am not sure will be flattering for my n color antique cushion.

So if anyone has different shades and could post some comparison photos I would be grateful. I did do a search but could only find general threads discussing different metal colors.

I know you all have a lot of DK pieces (not sure if any are 14k) but I would be grateful if you could help me out with your views.

Most of the work he has done for me has been white metal save my snake ring. I went 18k on that because at the time it was like 100 more so I figured go big.
It’s more yellowy than my vintage yellow gold pieces. I dont view yellow gold the same as I do white or rose gold. Yellow gold I want it to look like gold. Whit or rose I’m specifically speaking out additives that make it look like a different color. For that reason if I was doing rose gold at the prices today I’d go 14 of even 10. I figure 10 won’t be your jam as it’s an e ring

Hi @meely :wavey:

Have you considered apricot gold (mix of yellow and rose)? I think that would be lovely with warm diamonds. It's a form of yellow, but more muted, giving it more of an old-world, antique feel.

I love a very yellow, yellow gold. Boadicea was S-T color, and yellow gold on her looks AWESOME. Plain rose can make a warm stone look a tad brown. So I think apricot would be perfect. Keep in mind, tho, if you want a hard match, you'll need to have your wedding band in the same metal.

Will look forward to seeing how this progresses!

I will be following with interest as I am curious about this as well!

Have you had apricot gold Mrs B? Do you know if DK does it? My feeling is yellow gold isn’t necessarily going to do anything for my stone. To be honest my skin tone doesn’t always favour modern rose gold as it’s too bright. The apricot sounds interesting...
Oh and yes I love yellow gold but I don’t want to play up to the color of the diamond. Not bothered about matching bands it’s what is right up to the diamond that bothers me.

Thanks. Yeah I love yellow gold and the ring I have it looks perfect for but it is very vibrant compared to all of my other yellow gold.
You thought right, 10 doesn't feel for an engagement ring. 14 I can get my head around.

Well I will ask DK to show me examples side by side if no one posts with pics so will post those up assuming I get them!

I second this opinion - I find that this warmer gold is exactly like Portuguese gold - not too yellow with a bit of warmth to it. I inherited quite a bit of it from my grandmother and it’s so lovely especially over the years.

I don't know about your skin tone but as much as I love rose gold, they blend too much with my skin tone and it's all too easy to overlook that I am wearing a rose gold ring.

I don’t suit that very bright modern rose gold but I have an antique chain which is a lot softer and that looks good on me. My skin tone is fair with a yellow hue.

Meely, from what you're saying here, I suspect your chain might *be* apricot gold. I don't own any, but I've seen it many times and it is, honestly, my favorite color of gold. DKJ had a comparison photo on their Instagram page, but it was years back, so you'd need to be willing to scroll to find it!

Definitely worth a look, tho.

ETA. Just to be clear - as I understand it - apricot gold is half yellow and half rose.

I think it sounds great but I don’t understand how I have never seen it before? Certainly don’t recall seeing any pieces DK has made in it and google brings up nothing from him.
Pretty sure my chain is rose gold as I am in the UK and we don’t have apricot gold. I will post a picture up tomorrow when it is light and you can make your own judgement!

both are 14k and both from DK. I hope this helps. This photo is outside on a cloudy day.

Oh Thank you so much that’s great. I love the rose gold but I don’t think it will suit me. The 14k definitely looks less strongly yellow than my 18k DK ring.

Is 18k rose an option? It’s less yellow and less pink IMO.

Definitely an option though I am crossing fingers that he does the peach because it sounds like it might be right.
So far
18k rose
14k yellow
14/18k peach are in contention

Chain is apricot gold

Look at 'antique gold'

Oh yes I’m liking that! Thank you

Chain is apricot gold

Oooh is this your dooda? I was gutted when I saw you had sold this and that I hadn’t bought it! I want to make a necklace version soon.

But the apricot gold and antique gold are different @mrs-b ?!

I have DK’s antique gold 18, rose 18 and his regular yellow 18 if you’d like comparison pics?

This might help you with the different colors of Rose that DK has. Maybe the 18k would work for you OP.

Yes 18 is definitely less in your face thank you

I would love that please

I know that the alloys from each individual maker are different, so it's hard to compare one to another, but I wouldn't totally discount 18k yellow gold. My e-ring is 18k (but not from DK) with an N-colored AVC, and I don't find that the yellow gold "yellows" the stone at all. If anything, it provides a nice contrast ;)

(And hello again everyone! Back from a looooong hiatus - trying to avoid temptation, haha)

I would love to see a photo!
I have a DK yellow 18k piece already and it’s gorgeous but very rich in color. I want this piece to look Victorian and I think something softer would work better for that. Plus I worry about it increasing the yellow factor which is not really what I want.

Here you go! The best I could do with a live photo to try to capture the color of both the gold and the stone 20210316_161143.jpg
