Okay so I''m just dying to know has anyone tried P90X? I keep seeing the ads on TV, and I''m really curious. I''d like to tone up some more by June/July, and it looks effective, but you never know.

Has anyone has success with it?

ILE

I haven''t tried it myself (I''m a body step class addict) but two of my good girl friends as well as my brother, BIL and husband all swear by it! I''ve not heard anything but great things about it!

Hi ILE!
35.gif

My DH and I have this and P90. I saw the minimum requirements on P90X and got skeered! We''ve been doing it for about 2 weeks and it is a GREAT workout. I am very excited to get through this and start the p90X program.
I don''t know what fitness level you''re at, but as someone who was semi-athletic and became a slouch, I thought I should start out slower. Hopefully you''re in better condition than I am and can jump right into P90X. Have you checked ebay? There are usually a couple of people selling it on there.
Good luck!

It''s good, if you''re one of those who enjoy working out in front of a TV to a guy on a DVD! I prefer getting out, having a real life trainer ,in your face..making you go til you can''t anymore! At home, you can simply turn off the TV if you aren''t that motivated!!

Thanks Beau, Paula, and Burk! I really appreciate your comments! I''m 3-4 times per week runner weight lifter myself but I''m looking for something different for the summer, and I thought this might be fun. I appreciate all the comments! :)

Both my hubby and have used the P90 and P90X programs-P90X is awesome and can really kick your butt if you are a good self motivator! What is really nice is that there is such a large variety of exercises that it really keeps your body guessing. It also comes with some really yummy recipes-just looking at them this morning actually :) Good luck, I think you will really like it!

My BFF got it 4 days ago and loves it.

It will kick your butt for sure. It''s for the highly motivated, since there is an exercise or two for you to do every day, 6 days a week. BF and I have been doing it off and on for the past few months, since it is hard to keep on track with the program calendar and your own personal schedule. Definitely lots of variety, but that is the point of the program: muscle confusion, so you don''t peak. I think it''s good to have, even if you don''t stick by it 100% to add a little variety to your workout. All the videos are about 1 hr to 1 and a half hours long, except for the ab ripper, which is 15 minutes of intense abs. It has everything you could need. I don''t really want to tone my arms that much, so I only do half of the rounds for the arms and do cardio on the other day you do arms. There is plyometrics, legs (love that one, because it works your butt too), arms, back, shoulders, cardio, ken po, stretching, yoga (an hour and a half of an advanced yoga). This program works your entire body, and you can choose the workouts you want to do if you only want to focus on certain areas.

Okay wow...you guys are really making me want to try it for the summer now...I think I''ll have to do an Ebay search tonight! :)

Thanks guys

My boss was just telling me about it yesterday. He''s a marathoner (running 4 this year, 2 down, 2 to go as of last week), and he is using it as an in between marathons workout. All day yesterday he was complaining about how sore he was, and I think he mentioned that he had done the yoga the night before? Sounds like it really kicks butt, because he''s always working out and it definitely kicked his!

My husband and I just started month 3 of the P90X program. We both love it! We are both in our early 50''s and are in better shape than we have been in years. It''s not for weight loss tho''... we both needed to lose about 30 - 40 lbs. My husband is getting in great physical shape but not losing weight. I''m getting in great physical shape and losing weight because I am on the R&D Diet Cookie program. It''s simply a very low calorie diet program. I look and feel better than I have in years!

My husband got RIPPED on P90X about 1.5 years ago. He lost about 20lbs. of fat and gained quite a bit of muscle, doing the program (including its nutritional guidelines) for about 2.5 months.

I disagree with the above poster that it's not a good way to lose weight. Weight and resistance training is one of the best ways to burn calories, because increased muscle mass will up the number of calories your body burns at rest (one of the reasons men can take in more calories and gain less than a woman would on a similar diet). If you do the FULL program (as in, do it as they tell you to do it, not picking and choosing the DVD you feel like doing that day, FOLLOWING the diet plan, etc.), you WILL lose weight. Unless of course you're starting underweight

We don't have the time or money to go to the gym, so at-home workouts are really the best for us. While we haven't tried a lot of program, there hasn't been a need to look into other options. P90X gets the job done if you are self-motivated and can really stick to it.

I'm doing this now. It's a great workout. It's hard! Day one was an hour of pushups and pullups
23.gif
And the next day an hour of Plyometrics.
It makes Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred Level 3 seem like a cake walk.

iluvcarats, how''d you like PLYO BABY?? haha!

I did Interval X on Sunday and it kicked my bootay! Interval training really gets my heart rate up. I was so exhausted!

Good thing I stumbled across this thread. So we have P90X...but it''s collecting dust because we haven''t figured out how to hang things from ceilings and doorways that wouldn''t get in the way or look horrible when guests come over. Do you have to have all that stuff set up? The hangy strappy things etc? I used to be a gym nut but I''ve gotten flabby. I''d like to work out at home to get into "gym shape" before i return...i know...sounds silly

I am in pretty good shape, but I can''t do pullups!
I want to do them like the She-Women in the video.
Any suggestions?

Today''s tip of the day: BRING IT!

Pullups have a really fast learning curve, if I''m any indication. I have really strong legs, but my arms are very small and weak. I always satisfied myself with free weights and pushups, but recently I decided to buckle down and try pull ups.

Couldn''t get myself all the way up even ONCE.

So I just did what I could, and the next time I could do a bit more, and the next time a bit more. I worked up from being able to only pull myself up halfway once before having to drop, to being able to do three in a row in about two weeks. Then I could do five, then 8, so on. It just takes a little bit of patience, but it really comes a lot faster than most things seem to.

You can ''cheat'' with a chair under your feet at first if you want, that helps too, just don''t put too much weight on it.

My husband says that all natural and necessary movements will come quickly (he takes an evolutionary approach to working out, lol, I always poke fun at him for it)... so things like running (escape danger), pullups (climbing, either to get food or escape a predator), etc. have a fast learning curve.

Plyometrics is HARD. My favorites are interval X (although that one''s WAY hard, too) and legs & back... they target my ''problem'' areas (thighs/butt, mostly).

my boy''s a Marine and he''s been doing this a lot lately with his friends and loves it. he loves lifting weights and works out a lot, but P90X has been giving him a run for his money, i''ll be trying it soon

in the event i can drag myself to my computer afterwards i''ll let you know if i survived

Good good! You should report back and let us know how the 'learning curve' was for you. I'm still amazed at my ability to do even ONE, much less any more than that!! haha

Okay, this is RIGHT up my alley!! Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm tempted to try an actual class, they have a location not far from me. $25 a pop is pretty steep for my stingy self, though

I would buy the video, and go to one class to get the technique down. I only have the video, and it is hard to see what she is doing sometimes. I wish there was one near me

Tonight I tried pullups using a weight bench for support.
I can do them more easily reverse grip

*Am not giving up*

Must bulk up to keep DH in line

Wow, okay ladies my apologies for my absence, but I''ve since started P90X (Day 5 ---) and OMG!!! I always considered myself to be in good shape since I run 4-5x per week but WOW~~! This workout has been giving me a run for my money. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it so far. I''ve been sore in places I didn''t even know I had muscles for (ha!).

Still working myself up to a full pull-up tho.....

Thanks ladies!!

Hi Ladies! I am on my 4th week of P90X and I love it! My FI and I started it and it''s a great workout for both of us. I hate men though, he has lost about 15 pounds so far and me, nothing... But I have noticed that I am getting really toned. So the past 2 weeks I started running in the morning to lose those last 5-10 pounds I want to lose! I would recommend it to anyone, but know that it is a tough workout!

My fiance'' is trying P90X for like... the 4th time. He''s on day 3- ha ha. We''ll see if it lasts this time.

I did have another friend that stuck with it- it worked really well for her, but she was hard core to begin with...

Been absent for awhile-had an achilles injury with subsequent tendonitis---but in my down time I purchased the Pure Barre DVD and just wanted to say that it is awesome!!! Thanks for the suggestion ILUVCARATS!

Amanda, how is it going? Is your fiance still doing it?

Week 4 of P90X ...and I have to say WOW! Although I haven''t lost a ton of weight, I am a lot more toned. My husband even commented that my butt is "higher"! NICE!!

It''s a hard core workout..but definetly worth it if you stick it out!!

:)ILE

Ooo weee. 4 weeks sounds like just the mile stone I''d hope for that would let me know I was hooked to keep going. Keep us posted ILE

Okay- so I''m almost 2 full months into P90x and here are things I notice:

-I have more tone and definition in my legs, arms, butt, and abs
-I can lift more everyday things and I am stronger overall
-My running has improved due to my leg strength

ALL GOOD THINGS!! :) :)

That said, it is a REALLY hard work out and I''ve had to adjust my thinking a bit to keep going. 6 days was too much for me so I find myself doing 3-4 days a week of the videos plus another 2-3 of cardio on my own. I haven''t lost a ton of weight, but I admit I haven''t been all that diligent. My goal for the last month is to see if I can lose the 5lbs that seem to be perpetually hanging on me and see if that makes a difference.

I absolutely love the videos and can totally see myself using this long term to help me stay in shape. Has anyone out there finished the full 90 days?? Can you tell me what to expect??

:)ILE
