sunless tanning? such as mystic tan or anything that involves a spray tan booth. If so, I''d like to know your experience and the results. I''m also concerned about staining so how far in advance should you do it so its safe not to stain your dress, but yet still give you that sun kissed look.

I''ve done it a few times, and while I would recommend it wholeheartedly for most occassions, I wouldn''t suggest it for your actual wedding.

The colour doesn''t really go onto most clothing, but I''ve found that if I sweat at all when I have the "tan" it does come off onto white clothing.

But in general, I think its a great product, and perfect for if you are attending a formal event/someone else''s wedding and are wearing a non-white dress.

Good luck!

i mystic for special occasions sometimes. i do find it''s a drastic difference from my normal untan to the mystic color. also, i find it comes off really soon. and when it does, on me, it''s a noticeable. that said, i love the color. it''s a rich beautiful color.

I have a friend who does Mystic Tans regularly because she has seizure and isn''t supposed to lay in a tanning bed. Her only complaint has been that it turns her feet a funky color...other than that she loves it, and it looks really natural on her (she''s a brunette with olive skin). I agree with someone who said they wouldn''t do it for the wedding--you don''t want to stain your dress, even if it''s just on the inside. Think about how your arms come down on the sides of the dress--you might stain the outside just from that. (This is coming from a bride whose dress is still hanging inside the coat closet after 2.5 years, lol!)

AHH!HHHH!!! My sister made me an appt for spray tanning the day before my wedding. I''ve never done it before but she swore it won''t rub off.. but it sounds like it might!! I am having her cancel it!!!

Yes, I''m glad I read this thread too! I''m about as white as they make ''em and I just cannot tan (I can burn though - whoa, can I burn!), so I thought spray tan would be a good option for me too. But I always had a little fear of it in the back of my mind that it would look too fake -- but I hadn''t even thought of it rubbing off on my dress! Yikes.

I guess we must just embrace our paleness. I''ve started to refer to it not as "pasty white" but rather as "porcelain" and "alabaster." Sounds lovelier, no? :)

I live in Hawaii and of course its the ideal place to get a tan. I used to be tan when I was younger and then I bleached out. I do get tan when I go to the beach but sometimes after a day in the sun I can get too tan. I just wanted a hint of color nothing drastic, but it sounds like the spray tan ain''t such a good idea, so I guess I''ll just tan the old fashion way and just limit my time on the beach

I did the airbrush tan for my wedding. I went for a practice run a few weeks prior to see how it would work and loved the results, and then went 5 days before the wedding. I do not regret it at all. Although I am almost 100% Italian I am pale as can be and I would have been the same color as my dress had I not tanned (and tanning booths are NOT an option for me because I burn not tan). The color DID rub off a little on the inside of my dress and my bra but only after dancing and sweating did I notice it. The sprayer lady did not do the undersides of my arms as heavy and I did not have any staining on the outside of the dress.

Everyone did comment on how natural it looked and I was glad I didnt look like a ghost in my pics!

Oh, what I would give to be an olive skinned Italian girl like the rest of my family...

PNP - most of my family is Native American and they all get these beautiful even tans. Me - I''m sooooo pale!!! I''m like this big walking recessive gene with my blue eyes, naturally light hair (I color it darker), and pale skin. While both my mom & dad have dark dark hair, olive complexions, brown eyes... and get great tans with no burning.

I have been tanning for the last month in a bed... I know it''s soooooo bad!!! I haven''t used a tanning bed in several years and won''t do it again after the wedding. But also, I''m trying to prepare my skin for our honeymoon - the last time I went to Mexico without tanning somewhat first, despite using absurd amounts of sunscreen - I was fried in less than 2 days. I do eventually get a tan but I have to aquire it very slowly. So far I''ve just got a bit of color but it''s better than it was a month ago - I think I was so pale I looked transparent!!

My fiancee has tried it (he tans to dry out his oily skin, sorry if that''s TMI) and I''m going to start just a few weeks just before the wedding. I''m very pale, too, and I do not want to try the tanning bed because of a history of melanoma in the family. Fake-n-bake is the only way I''d go and I think as long as I''m careful it will be OK. I''m also not planning to wear my wedding dress twice so as long as it comes off at the reception and not before the ceremony I''m not going to care much.

I''ve used the airbrush tanning as well before going on vacation, so I don''t scare everyone with my white body in a bathing suit! I liked the results, but I agree that for a white gown, you''ll want to do it about 4 or 5 days before...also, there are lotions with the bronzer in it that you can use in conjunction with airbrushed tans that will keep the tan longer so you don''t have to go in for touch-ups as often.

The old thread on sunless tanners didn''t let me reply to it, so I figured I''d ask for advice on this thread as well...

Anyone have any REALLY good at-home tanning lotions? I am EXTREMELY fair and would like to be tan for my wedding, however I am strongly opposed to natural tanning and tanning beds, since I want to take care of my skin and we have a history of cancer in our family.

I have tried Jergens natural glow, but I hated it. I smelled like a steak (you know, that gross cooked smell), my knees turned orange, and I was sticky alllll day.

Does anyone have a lot of success with anything else? The only other thing I have tried is Coppertone Endless Summer Gradual Tan, and it''s okay, but I think I can do better.

I look about 10 times more healthy in a wedding dress when I have a tan. I took pictures without the tan while trying on dresses, and after the fake lotion tan as well. There was no comparison!!

Can anyone help?

well, you just named my two favorites. which color of the jergen''s did you try?

i found that putting them on at night right before bed helps with the smell. you wake in the morning and shower as usual, unless i guess you''d shower the night before (before putting on the tan stuff).

when did you apply it?

I did it right after the shower, like someone said to do in an old thread. I still smelled FUNKY! And I tried both the light and medium colors.

Maybe I'm just...bad at them.

MY SUNLESS TANNER IS AWESOME! Im currently useing oil of olays "Tuch of sun" it works great! I went from snowman white to beach girl tan in a week! I love this stuff its just a lotion that you apply once a day and within a few days you can see the difference! I despise the sun so i gave this a try and it really worked i was amazed i also got the touch of sun moisturizer for you face it has spf 15 in it and lightly tans you and give you a soft glow. I now have perfect color and no longer look strange. the best part about it IT DOESNT COME OFF ON YOUR CLOSE AND ITS GREASLESS!

I like Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisture (medium). Dihydroxyacetone is near the top of the ingredient list. I could not stand the smell of the Jergens it was making me nauseous HT smells better.

DHA is the active ingredient in every sunless tanning product - there is no other ingredient that has the same effect. DHA does have a funky smell, but the other scents in some of these products probably cover it better than others.

I tried airbrush tanning (where someone sprayed it on me) and I thought it worked nicely - I am SUPER PALE (you know the drill - many makeup brands don''t have makeup light enough, etc...), and it was really pretty natural looking - check out my wedding photos a couple of posts down if you''re interested.

Yes, DHA is in sunless tanners however, the higher up an ingredient is on the ingredient list, the more of it there is in the product. DHA is the last ingredient listed on Jergens Natural glow for instance.

I have done them all just about!!

I personally wouldn''t do the Mystic Tan for really any occasion. I did it a couple of times at Darque Tan and another place and it wasn''t even at all, and I was all splotchy.

I would recommend being airbrushed by a professional because they get your entire body and evenly. I would try it a few weeks before your wedding just to see how you like it first. Then if you deciede you like it I''d go 2-3 days before the wedding.

I currently use Jergens Natural Body Glow and LOVE it!!! It really works well.

In HS I went to a tanning bed for formals and proms, but stopped my senior year. I''ve told myself that when my ff proposes I will start tanning again. To me, it just makes me fel better. I''ll do it until the wedding and then stop.

Deja vu! I just posted on the ''wedding pet peeve'' thread last night about brides who look day-glo orange on their wedding day.

Glad to see you ladies are doing it the right way!
