Just wondering - has anyone on here used the company A Solid Gold Sound for their wedding DJ? I signed up with them because they have a good price and I have paid my deposit. They called me this morning and told me that if I paid up the rest of my balance before Thanksgiving they'd give me 10% off and all that. I am super untrusting of wedding vendors in general because of all the horror stories I've heard. So I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of them and how they are? Should I pay them up front to save fifty bucks (and happily scratch a payment off my list) or withhold my balance until the day-of just to be sure they are legit?

Just a side note: I don't really have a reason to think they AREN'T legit - but again, I'm super wary of everyone!!

I''m like you and don''t trust many wedding vendors - mostly because they never seem to trust me! I don''t know in what other industry you''d pay up front for a service you receive later (I''m sure people will have examples)...I mean, we''d never pay full price for a car and then pick it up 6 months later right? But for some reason (I think because vendors have been burned in the past) we have to do this with wedding stuff.

I wouldn''t do it for 50 dollars savings. Keep that money in your pocket and pay when your contract says you have to! That''s my 2 cents!

I could be wrong, but I think that Sabine originally was going to use this company before I found some really bad reviews on the knot. I HIGHLY recommend not paying it all upfront at least until you can ask her if this was the company.

hmmm. I couldn''t find ANY reviews on the knot....where did you find them?

Thanks Robbie. You convinced me to just cut my losses and cancel with them.

I know that Sabine didn''t lose her deposit, so I would try to get that back too.

tberube, this is the company that I put a deposit down on and then cancelled with. To be fair, although they had complaints against them, all the complaints were about the videography service when I was booking (back in July), I had never seen any "true" reviews of their dj service. But the fact that they are a national company with no local offices, just P.O. boxes that their mail goes to, really scared me. When I decided to cancel, I called, and at first they kept telling me the person I needed to talk to was in a meeting. Eventually I got really pushy and said, look, I want to cancel this event and I want to do it now, so put me on the phone with someone who can deal with it for me. They put me on hold, and what sounded like the same guy came on and did cancel my event and promised me that I would not be charged the deposit. He did give me a hard time about wanting to know why I wanted to cancel, so be prepared for that. And when I said I had read negative reviews, he had this whole schpeil (sp) about how there are people overseas who post whatever they want, not really people who used the product, blah, blah, blah. I never got charged anything from them (although I did cancel the same day that I put down the deposit), but I am still getting emails about them asking for "details about my event." I''ve emailed them to remind them that it was cancelled, but I"m definitely keeping a close watch on my transactions to make sure they don''t end up charging me anything.

I really would try to cancel and get your deposit back if I were you. I got such a shady feeling from them. Chances are, you would get a dj for your event, but I decided after dealing with them that I wanted to meet my dj in person and know who exactly would be there before paying them.

Thanks, Sabine, and everyone else. I know that there''s a good chance I WILL get a DJ and it will be just fine - but with a company that has that many complaints and who was THAT pushy about getting my money, scares me. I''m not much of a risk taker. I do have a friend whose husband is a wedding DJ - I''ll probably pay more, but I guess that''s the trade off. I originally wanted to just do the IPod thing - and DF thinks I still should - but I think I''d prefer not to have to worry over the music and the announcing and all that on my wedding day. I just want to relax that day and have fun.

Any ideas on WHAT I should say when they ask me why I cancelled? Is there any reason I can give them that might give me a better chance at getting my deposit back? Oh - and I have decided to cancel my debit card and get a new one so they won''t have my CC info anymore.

Just shifty, that place.

I guess that''s what I get for finding a wedding vendor on my own (every other vendor I''ve booked was either a friend of mine or came highly recommended by a friend or another trusted vendor....yeesh).
