The ''lost items'' thread made me wonder, have you ever found a piece of jewelry of some value? The closest I have come are a diamond earring of a classmate''s in middle school, and DH finding a pair of silver Tiffany''s bracelets.

but I will keep my eyes open and hope!

Other than an occasional penny, I''ve never found anything.. except for a $20 in middle school. I turned it into the principal, and I think whoever lost it actually went in to get it back.

I don''t know what I''d do if I found something on the sidewalk- perhaps post "found this" flyers on nearby stores, or something? How about you?

I read an article about a charm bracelet being lost for 20 years. It had gotten accidentally switched by baggage handlers during 2 people''s travels. Person A kept the bracelet for over 20 years, wondering who the owner could be. They contacted NPR, and someone heard some info on the charms (engravings with initials, birthdays) and thought it sounded like someone they knew. So, the person who had lost the bracelet 20 years before was reunited with their bracelet after decades... all because a kind person found the bracelet (in their luggage), and held on to it for them for so many years. Such a cool story.

Mostly, lost.
Once, bought a lottery ticket that won a token sum but that day my wallet was stolen with the ticket in it.

Oh No!

I once found an opal and diamond ring mixed in with some costume rings at a store...the owner muct have been trying rings on and placed hers there. I turned it in and was told that it would be mine if it was not claimed in 30 days. It was returned to the owner.

Yes actually - it was the weirdest thing!

I was quite young, maybe ~ 18yo and in the *ladies* toilets at the public library, I found sitting on the hand basin what was clearly a *men's* gold ring.
It was quite a heavy and solid gold style, with a number of reasonably sized diamonds in it.

Of course, I didn't know much about jewellery at the time and assumed the stones were probably fake.

I took it down the road and asked a jewellery store what they would estimate the value at -
it ended up being 18k gold and decent diamonds - I think they said something like 3 or 4k, so I was of course like

!
Thinking it must have been lost or stolen, I took it back and gave it to the staff at the library, who in turn gave it to the local police station ( who took my details for their report).

I had pretty much forgotten about it all until my friend asked me what happened with it maybe about 6months or so later- I phoned the police station, and it ended up that nobody had claimed it and it could not be traced to a crime - so I was allowed to take ownership of it in the end

I had quite a knack for finding things when I was little - I remember finding cash (larger bills like $50's) in the shallows at the beach at least a couple of different times. I have checked with my mum, who confirmed I'm not imagining things - oh, and I wasn't stealing! lol..
I think it was because I always had my head down, fossicking for rocks, shells etc

The only things that I have found have been semi recent and recently and both are Tiffany items. I found the Paloma Picasso heart ring on a table in the Student Union Building when I was in college and just last week while I was walking a neighborhood in town I found a Return to Tiffany heart necklace in the road, I thought for sure it was one of our girls that wears hers everyday and was with me but in a diff part of the area but I showed it to her and it wasn''t. It looked like it may of gotten tossed by an angry girlfriend? who knows?
