Have you ever sent a diamond to a jeweler to have it set?

Hello there,

I am from Canada and am wanting to purchase a lab diamond from Ada diamonds. However, I want to get a ring setting for the diamond with Caysie from CVB inspired design. Has anyone ever done this? I am a bit nervous to send a diamond to a jeweler. Any insights would be appreciated!

Yes I prefer to send the stone to the jeweler that is making the setting. I have actually sent off rings just to be sized because I have not found anyone locally that I trust :roll2::oops2:

Do you have to worry about customs and paying when it goes back and forth over the border? You might want to ask for info
on that if you don't know how it works. I've never done it so cant help with that but we do have lots of PSers from Canada.

I am buying the diamond from a US company as well, so it wouldn't have to go through the border until I receive the full ring. There is an agreement between US and Canada which essentially means no duty on diamond rings importanted into Canada from US manufacturers-- yay!

I think I am going to go with Distinctive Gems for my diamond as my jeweler has worked with him before! I am new to this whole thing, so just trying to see what the norm is. Thanks for the help!

That's what I was thinking... I don't know any local jewelers and I'd be heartbroken if a swap happened. I am usually not a distrusting person, but the engagement ring is bringing out another beast, haha. Thanks for the help!

This. Just ask her for an insured label and be sure to follow shipping instructions for packaging. It sounds more daunting than it is.

Okay great, thank you! It is overwhelming, haha. So excited though!

Oh yes. Just recently actually. It’s a very safe process. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Yes, diamond prices just seemed to jump and while the people you are dealing with have been found to be honest, not everyone is.

I am usually a very distrusting person and i question everything but I had no problem sending out my ring ( diamond and all) to be reset and then back to me. I would trust a reputation of a big online company over a local small jewelry store.

Perhaps your vendor could send the stone directly to CVB?

Yep! That's what I am going to have them do. They have worked together and already have an established relationship. Thanks a lot everyone. You've eased my worries.

I would ask for a lab diamond with a G-Cal report. It is far superior to IGI and the grading more accurate.

I would think that if you are buying the stone from Distinctive Gem, Johnathan can ship it to CVB for you no problem. I'm guessing he has done that many times for others.
