Have you repurposed diamond studs into dangle earrings?

After having nice diamond studs for 12 years, I just realized I don't wear them because:
1. My hair is a chin-length bob that completely covers my ears so no one, including me, can see studs.
2. Studs don't "hang" correctly on my ears and appear sideways.

So now I'm contemplating remaking the studs into dangle style earrings to get more use from them. I'd prefer the diamonds to move, maybe like diamond "charms" hanging on plain gold hoops. Thinking that whatever I do, the earrings need to be at least 1 inch to 1.5 inches long.

Have you done this? What would you all recommend? Thanks for your opinions and insight.

I haven't done it, so I don't have any pics to share (sorry) but I completely understand what you mean. Studs have never sat well in my ear lobes so I've always gone for hoops or small dangle/drop earrings. I love your charm idea, I think they would look beautiful and be super versatile. Can't wait to see what you end up doing! =)2

I had studs but my lopes didn't like them. Skin irritation. Had drop earrings made. The style you have in mind as dangles would be pretty.

Ivy and rose made my drop earrings. They were awesome to work with.
They are about 3/4in long.

Those are lovely! I like them so much more than studs.

How about these?

you could even make the diamonds detachable so you could dress them up or down.

Thank you... they are so much more comfortable for my ears. They work for me=)2

I purchased a pair of preloaded BG studs and had the backs removed and modified to use as a charm on my pave diamond hoops. I love the movement and simplicity. The small hoops are a great idea as I have pearls that I interchange with.

Ooh, I like these -- particularly the diamonds on the hoops!

@Queenie60 I would love to see photos of your hoops with both the diamonds and the pearls -- what a great idea! So versatile!

I did not have them remade. I bought them as drops. Just shy of a carat each. From Jewels by Grace.

Beautiful! I'm sure they are stunning on you!

I am considering it. Originally I wanted to make dangles like Sonny and Cher from Grace and was planning that with OEC studs. However I decided (since my DH loves stud earrings on my ears) to give the studs a chance before converting them. It is, as far as I understand, a relatively simple modification if one is interested in taking diamond studs and making them into dangles.

The big question is do you allow for articulation and my answer is and always will be a resounding yes. That movement gives them a whole different feel and look IMO and is what makes dangles (for me) alluring.

If I were to modify my studs to dangles I would recreate something similar but would allow them to articulate. So not exactly the same as the above dangles. I also would keep the original settings and just modify what was necessary as the original setting is TDF gorgeous.

@missy Your studs are totally gorgeous! The dangles are are lovely but I agree about the articulation. I've gotten so much inspiration from this thread that now I need to determine what direction to take. But I'm definitely going to rework my studs!

HI:

I agree with what @missy said. However, It might be a challenge to get that proportion exactly perfect--as piercings tend to be uneven and earlobes not perfect either. But I adore the style.

That is why I did what @Mayk bought--had them set in leverbacks. Secure, and very pretty. They appear to be floating.

No wrong answer here.

cheers--Sharon

Stacy Nolan has done some great dangle projects! I like her design because you can always use the drops on a chain or to hang off a charm holder.

@klrrrr I wasn't familiar with Stacy Nolan so thanks for the reference. Her dangles look great!

Change them
ive only just started wearing diamond studs after years of wearing fabulous fashion type dangles
Im not enjoying how studs feel

I’ve got a pair of 3.30ctw Ascendancy diamond studs that I’ve rarely worn in the 4 years I’ve had them because my right piercing is lower than the left causing the stud to cover the edge of my lobe plus the drooping forward.

I love dangles so I’m thinking about having them set similar to these.
