Having second thoughts on 6 Prong setting

Thoughts.....Some people say it makes the diamond look bigger. Others say the prongs can be made smaller because there are 6 instead of 4. With 4 if one gets bent - there goes the diamond. But if it's insured, then 4 seems fine.
I think also it depends on the size of the stone [and the size of the prongs].

To me, it depends on the size of the diamond. Obviously, if the stone is 0.5ish ct or smaller, a six prong would take up too much area and give the appearance of "crowded" prongs... so a 4 prong would look better. If the stone is 0.75ish or greater, a six prong tends to make it look larger. Six prongs will accentuate the roundness, while a 4 prong will make the stone appear more square.

What size stone do you have?

OP, just saw where you are getting a 1.67 ct stone... so no worries whatsoever about the prongs being too "crowded." I would definitely get the 6 prong. 6 prongs are more secure and they make a diamond appear larger by forcing the eye all the way around the stone. :))

Exactly. I agree that on stones of less than a half carat, you might want to consider 4 prongs. But even then, prongs can be made smaller and more delicate and are fine on smaller diamonds. I don't think in my experience that 6 prongs makes my diamond look bigger, though. I like it because it protects more of the stone when you accidentally hit the ring against something. Less chipping risk as well as less risk of stone falling out of setting because of a loose prong.

Honestly, I like your original choice, felicity, the best. I absolutely love the head, and it is a beautiful setting. I think the way the prongs are on the felicity would still let in a lot of light, like the 4 prongs, but with more protection. It might also depend on the size diamond you are looking for, but I have seen 6 prongs that are dainty and flattering. 1.67 would look fantastic in that setting! Wow factor!!

Thanks for the help everyone and alleviating my concerns with the 6 prong one. I'm going to stick with it. Very much appreciated.
