Hi everyone,

I have a bit of a newbie question, even if I'm not a newbie. I put in the numbers for a stone we are looking at and it was 0.7. In the comments it says "Low HCA in larger stones can look dark, but good for necklaces and earrings." Does this eliminate it for a ring, or is it worth a look?

Thanks !

Sometimes, please post the numbers from the report.
HCA scores have changed over the years resuting in more combos under 1 that are just fine in a ring.
Unchecking h&a and selecting other than EX/ID symmetry will give the old grade.

@Garry H (Cut Nut) would probably be the best person to ask about this. The comment would sort of scare me away though but let’s see if he chimes in!

This stone will have a very flat profile and produce less fire than a stone with a crown angle in the 34-35 range.

The shallow 32.5 ca would make it a no go for me.
They can be bright but not as lively as a more normal crown.

Thanks everyone, pretty easy answer. Will pass.

Actually with the smallish table this stone will only be a problem in a ring if you are short sighted. Less than 10 inches or 25 cm viewing.
Place a ruler between your eyes and run your fingers along - read off you closest focal distance and I can tell you if you like the stone.
The stone will be about 3-5% bigger surface area and will not show dirt as badly as a Ideal Tolkowsky proportioned diamond.

Hi Garry,

Thanks for the response. I think my knowledge may be too simple to understand the nuances. I don't mind sacrificing a bit of size for one that looks good from all distances.
