After work on Tuesday, my “boyfriend” greeted me with a dozen red roses. To celebrate our 1 year anniversary, he suggested we go where we first met. As we had done a year ago to the day, we got coffee at the original starbucks and walked down to the waterfront to a roof top which has a 365 degree view of Seattle. The sunset was simply beautiful. Todd was playing with his new camera and we were enjoying the view. After we sat down on a bench, he asked me to get a battery out of his camera bag which I thought wa little strange as it was a new camera. Instead of a battery, I found a beautiful cherry wood box! I looked at him shocked and excited and at a loss for words. He said some sweet things and got on his knee and asked me to marry him. I don’t exactly remember what he said or if I opened the box first or what - it was all surreal. I do know I said yes and was so excited to open that box. Inside the box was the most beautiful ring – a gorgeous diamond on a simple platinum setting. I’ve never seen anything so sparkly and pretty or felt so delightful and special and content inside. He also read me a wonderful poem that was very symbolic of our relationship. Our perfect evening continued on at the same next stop we had had a year prior: a lovely restaurant where we had a yummy dinner.

He had the ring for a month and had just looked at it in his house’s lighting. It’s totally true what y’all say. There is nothing like a well cut diamond. This Ideal cut 1.6 Round Brilliant stone (don’t yet know the other specs) looks amazing in different light and from different angles. From sunset light to fancy restaurant light to a bit of shadow to bright direct light. I excused myself 3 times to use the lieu at dinner, mostly because I wanted to walk in front of the mirror in the bathroom and see the ring on my hand!

After dinner, he suggested we go and see my mom. We then went home and went off to bed. I awoke pretty quickly in the morning and turned on the light to see it again. I can’t stop staring at my hand and telling everyone about our engagement. This last 48 hours has been surreal and beyond my wildest dreams. Although he says he doesn’t feel an intense difference now being officially engaged as he’s always known we’d be together, there is something about being asked the question and wearing a ring that changes things. I am so happy and peaceful and deeply in love

Can’t concentrate on much of anything other than my fiancé, our future, our ring. Below is a picture from my “busy day at work” today. We are off to Vegas tomorrow for the weekend – a trip we had planned a while back. Tee hee….

More pics and posts to come.

My busy day at work today, staring at my ring, taking pics, and IM'ing friends. Yesterday I told my boss that I would really try hard to work but might be a tad sidetracked for a day or two ;>

What a romantic story

Congratulations on your engagement!!

P.S. I love the kitty in your avitar.

thank you! I was just telling Todd how tough it was to write about the evening as I really don't yet have words to express the depth of loveliness in my heart and soul and perfection of the whole evening. sigh...

The kitty is my 6 year old Devon Rex - Princess Zoe.

That's a great engagement story! Glad to see that your fiancee has a nice romantic streak. We want more ring pics of your beauiful ring too.

I used to live in Seattle (actually Mercer Island) for a bit (many, many years ago). It's got a lot of beautiful places and it sounds like you two found one of the nicest ones!

i love those simple prong setting.

Next step is to put it in a Ritani endless love bezel setting

(edited to add)

The ring is a 1.6c ACA H&A from White Flash in their simple setting. It showed a 1.4 HCA but never really sparkled until we put it on Alice's finger - how appropriate

We're exited to see what it will look like in the Ritani pave bezel, if that's her final decision.

Somehow, wearing the ring does change things. It's a more peaceful, relaxed feeling somehow... even my fiance feels it.

And, when you've waited as long as we have, it's kind of a feeling of relief.

Good luck putting your plans together & into motion. Ours are just beginning. This weekend, we'll brainstorm the guest list.

BTW, does your diamond have a brother?

In my opinion, when you've got a gorgeous, well-cut diamond like you two do, it's going to look AMAZING in whatever setting you choose - have fun deciding which one fits your "endless love"!!!

Thank you for your wonderful story. I just love hearing about real proposals since mine was sort of weird, although we've been married 25 years. Your story made me have a lump in my throat. Your ring is beautiful. Have a wonderful time preparing for your wedding and have a wonderful life together. Its much nicer to get through this world as two together

I never wanted Alice to know how excited I was to be ring shopping or what I was looking at. Time to come clean with Alice on my alter PS ego

Muchas Gracias to Lesley and Brian at White Flash for helping me pick my stone: ACA/ HCA 1.4/ 1.6c/J/SI1. They gave me the confidence to pick a J SI1, even recommended it over another ACA I VS2.

When it arrived, I thought the size 6 solitaire looked pretty good on my pinky

An agonizing month later, I was finally able to photograph it on my GOMD's finger (GOMD is short for girl of my dreams) I'm Macro challenged. I can never capture the fire I see when it's on her finger.

and what is your ring size alice? or cowboy? or ricardo?
3.gif

Todd, aka Cowboy aka Ricardo had me on a wild goose chase when he told me that he had posted on PS but with an alias. I know you all have very cute boyfriends, fiances, and husbands, but mine is the cutest and the sweetest in my opinion. After reading his 235 posts as Ricardo and seeing how much effort he put into learning and researching all this stuff, I am incredibly touched.

My ring size is 6.0.

I look at this ring throughout the day - it's beyond gorgeous (tomorrow is 1 week since he proposed). I especially like to look at it in the mirror, and it was very cool being in Vegas with all the lights seeing all the fire. Another super cool place was on the airplane holding it to the sun, seeing all the reflections it made on the wall.

One more thing if you haven't tried. Todd's camera has video on it. We took a video of it under a bright light but all you could see was the stone and i slowly flashed it. It was like a light show.

Great story, beautiful ring. Congratulations and best wishes to both (or all four, Alice, Todd, Ricardo, Cowboy)

well alice, i would have to agree that you have one stand up man by your side
1.gif
i think it is so awesome when guys get on here and go incognito...so much fun! and as you can tell by "ricardo's" posts, he certainly did his homework and probably, well definitely, has enough knowledge for future diamond purchases...wedding band, earrings, pendants

and alice, once again, i love your ring! way to go ricardo, i mean todd
2.gif

congrats to you both
